@Funkypolar, oh dear, my niece was booked to go in for a hysterectomy in March 2020 and then was rebooked for October, unfortunately it was cancelled again.
I know a hysterectomy isn’t life saving but in my opinion it’s still essential.

My 6 year-old has been waiting for an operation to repair his squint for over a year. I don't mind waiting for that though and as he is autistic I think he will cope better when there are less restrictions in the hospital.

Not surgery but my 7 year old has finally got a date for his hearing test after waiting for 6 months. That's just to test his hearing. I dread to think how long it will be before they actually help him. He keeps crying because he can't hear properly and I just wish I could make it better for him.

I think things like surgical management for missed miscarriages are also cancelled. I had this a few weeks ago and a lot of the advice online currently says that it is not an option in many hospitals due to COVID-19. Whilst I understand the need to cancel some things, it’s disappointing that women’s health/wellbeing is not considered essential...I know that’s a bit of a selfish attitude as I was in this position a few weeks ago but I was astonished that some women would not even be given the choice Sad

Elective operations are being cancelled because there is always a risk of the patient needing intensive care. There aren't enough ICU beds left in certain areas to facilitate this at this time. It is unfortunate.

They did a live report from our Liverpool Royal and the Consultant listed knee replacements, surgery to relieve symptoms of nerve, ligament, joint issues, including those for cancer patients, hernia operations. I know someone whose had their circumcision op cancelled.

ALL routine surgery cancelled at my local hospital. We are in a low risk area.

NHS staff here. In the first peak, all surgery was cancelled except for urgent surgery (mainly life or limb saving).

This was because the theatre and recovery space was turned into overflow ICU, to cope, and theatre staff, including anaesthetists were redeployed. The theatre ventilators were used for ICU.

Despite this, we still ran out of ICU beds. It was horrific.

Some surgery continued, but was done at private hospitals, funded by the NHS.

This time, all elective surgery is planned to continue, but some will happen in private hospitals, funded by the NHS.

Surgery has not been cancelled without very good reason.
