How can I be happy for someone else when feeling so low?

I find it so hard to celebrate the achievements of a family member, and hope someone can give me some advice. She’s getting married, having a baby and has the perfect house and job. I do all I can to congratulate her, as well as giving pregnancy advice and support, but I’m scared it comes across as fake. I then feel I try too hard to be happy for her. I’m going through a very tough time in many ways, and I really struggle to truly be happy for her :(

I have been there. Don't want to be ott but don't want to look bitter.

No one's life is as perfect as it looks.

Just be positive and happy but if it's something you wish you had, it's ok to acknowledge that.

When you feel low it is so hard to be enthusiastic. Your feelings are probably distorting on how you think you're actions are being seen and no-one will be thinking 'bad thoughts' about you. On a fb group they talk about the need to be in a good place in order to support others. Sounds like you need to have some 'me time' including giving yourself a break x x

I completely get you!

Do you mind me asking what your situation is?

Thank you! I just feel very isolated. We moved to my husbands hometown last year and all of my friends are far away. And with covid dh works long hours and I only speak to the kids all day and have no adult conversation apart from when dh comes home. Which has led to troubles in our relationship too. And my eldest has struggles as well, which is also hard to deal with.. just feels like there’s a lot at the moment x
