Says men are funnier than women. He says, ‘It's a very contentious statement, but they're much better'.

My view is that, by the age of 85, if you think men are funnier than women, it’s just your opinion based on your experience and nobody should be getting riled up about it.

Reasonable?

@AwaAnBileYerHeid

Also, a genuine question. Why is it ok to say women are better at this and women are better at that yet when one says that a man is better at something, there's outrage?
Give us an example then.
Pumperthepumper · 08/11/2020 18:52
@Pumperthepumper it's not a case of "blaming the women for not being funny enough". I pointed out that it was simply my personal experience of who I found funny and who I didn't. I've come across a few male comedians that were shit and one or two that I actually cringed for. But that doesn't change my personal experience in that I've always found male comedians funnier than females.
Why though? What’s the difference? Funnier how?

ComeOnBabyHauntMyBubble · 08/11/2020 19:00

Well it depends what he finds funny doesn't it?

A certain type of humour not only does it appeal more to men, but a lot of the women find it abhorrent so not only they wouldn't make that type of jokes, but they wouldn't laugh at them either or respond negatively.

Yes.

Parky is just a silly old man, though. Noone really gives much weight to his tedious professional-Northerner opinions.

Also i thought he died about 18 months ago. I'm now wondering who died, that i confused with him!

No, not unless you think all men do the same type of comedy as each other, and all women do a different type. Which isn’t true.

So if it’s not the type of comedy, what’s the common factor that links all men, and all women? It’s a real head scratcher, isn’t it?

Butchyrestingface · 08/11/2020 19:37

Another one slightly startled that he's still on the go.

Stinkerbells · 08/11/2020 19:43

Haven’t read the whole thread. What context was it said? Was it in humour? Even if he was serious I don’t see it as sexist, he’s just drawing on his own experiences. Never really thought about it but I probably recall more comical men than women, just an observation. Obviously everyone’s experiences will be different.

trixiebelden77 · 08/11/2020 19:49

Hahahah.

Your internalised misogyny is showing.

Why not make a list of all the women you can’t bear?

It’s no doubt quite long. Will keep you busy waiting for the first funny woman in the history of the world to be born.

He said men had a better sense of humour than women. He also said he knew it was a controversial thing to say. In the same interview he acknowledged that society was sexist in the 70's but that it didn't do anybody any harm..... so yeah, pretty sexist and offensive

Me? Well, there are loads of women I can’t bear. And loads of men I can’t bear. It would take me some time.

Did you follow the link and read the study? Or just that article?

Who was this aimed at Trixiebelden?

Think it was aimed at me. Because Helen Mirren sets my teeth on edge.

Have you actually read the study?

Pumperthepumper · 08/11/2020 20:09

I’m guessing no. I’m guessing Flavitt Googled are women less funny than men and gleefully posted the article without giving it a second thought.

flaviaritt · 08/11/2020 20:11

I didn’t read it. I googled “Parkie men funnier than women” to remind myself of his exact remarks, and this came up. I am inviting further discussion.

Most definitely! Especially as the actual research supports many of the points made by those that disagree with her posts 😂
LaLaLoopsieLoo · 08/11/2020 20:13

Ahhh, the irony, getting upset about the opinions of an old boy, crying misogyny and sexism whilst throwing insults at another woman. The art of conversation and debate is dying, how sad?

You really should have read the research. It doesn't support your argument in the way the bbc article suggests.
flaviaritt · 08/11/2020 20:15

The report says:

“This meta-analysis suggests that, on average, men have higher humor production ability than women, as judged by independent raters assessing the humor produced by both sexes. This difference is small-to-moderate and may reflect divergent preferences and experiences of humor for men and women, stemming from evolutionary and environmental influences.”

No idea whether this is supported by the detail of the research, of course.

😂😂😂 You should definitely read it, a lot of it will sound familiar.

How can you invite discussion if you haven’t read the study? You don’t know anything about it!

flaviaritt · 08/11/2020 20:16

SueEllenMishke

Okay. Why is that? Succinctness would be valued here.
