To think it’s impossible to home dye your hair blonde without it looking gingery?

I have dark blonde hair that I normally get highlighted once or twice a year to brighten it up. I had booked in to have it last week and obviously things changed with lockdown.
I have tried box dyes before but every one I’ve used had made my hair look gingery, not the golden blonde it promises!
First world problem I know but aibu to think that it’s inevitable or does anyone have an secrets they can share?

I tried to cover my grey in lockdown and keep it blonde (it’s dark brown naturally) with box dyes. The ends looked fab, the whole top part of my head was ginger. Thankfully I wasn’t going anywhere!

Rebooked the hairdresser once she opened again, it’s in the process now of a long rectification by the professional 😂 except the second appointment was booked then I unknowingly spent time near someone with covid (so had to cancel hair), then rebooked for end of November (which now won’t happen due to 2nd lockdown)

I will have some very long grey roots when I next see her as I am not box dying this time !

I remember dying my dark brown hair when I was 14 with a blonde Nice and Easy box dye. It didn't go ginger but it didn't go blonde either, I was aiming for Rachel from Friends, I'm quite proud of how brave and ambitious I was!

Your just using the wrong colour.

I now realise why more women are looking great with ginger or purple tones these days.
