Ideas please - road being dug up, tiny baby

I am livid.

Our road is being resurfaced today. They started one hour ago. We live in a flat with a baby. The noise of pneumatic drills is audible from every room in the flat. I can actually feel it while sitting on the sofa right now, you can’t watch TV or anything. I just went out in my dressing gown and the guy I spoke to said they’re on the clock til 4am.

HOW is this ok? I’m here with a screaming baby, at the end of my rope, the building is shaking. Environmental health apparently aren’t picking up. What recourse do I have? We didn’t get any message about this. If we had I’d have gone to my mum’s lockdown or no. How can our council allow this?

Thanks for the suggestions and great shout re a walk. DH is currently lacing up his trainers Grin I’ll take the later walk if it drags on, although I’m not wild about heading out in the bad lands of London alone at 3am if it’s still ongoing. Still, I’ll try and get my head down for a bit....

Sorry for anyone seeing the post now with the removed video but I’d put it on my YouTube account with my real name and wasn’t wild about having that public.

Currently blocking out the noise with Ewan the Sheep, who knew he’d be so useful 😂

We had this recently. Resurfacing a road through the night. It was really loud, and we weren't notified by any letter through the door, but there were signs on adjacent roads (that we never drive down) was very annoying as had actually gone out that night and couldn't drive into my road after an evening out so had to park couple roads away & walk back to the car at 6am to bring it back ready for work.

The road is lovely to drive on now though Grin

I hope baby settles & you all manage to get some sleep tonight

Had ours done in multiple stages (3 or 4 nights, but once I was away with the girls). The council has a knack of "forgetting" to do notices. It's crazy loud, and a nightmare, hopefully they will finish early. Best of luck!

mopphead · 06/11/2020 22:48

Was going to say white noise but I see you're on it!

Nonamesavail · 06/11/2020 23:03

Hopefully the worst bit will be done soon ;(

Whysrumgone · 06/11/2020 23:08

It’s really shit, but it’s one night op. It obviously needs to be done or they wouldn’t be doing it. I live 100 yards from a special weapons testing camp. I hear missiles, guns and jets morning, noon and night. I was born here though so it’s all background noise to me now

Mochudubh · 06/11/2020 23:09

It's shit, but these things have to be done. If they weren't done your neighbours would be complaining about the state of the road.

Look at it this way, your DC will have to learn to cope with all sorts of things, if you treat this as normal they may be less reactive in the future.

Oh gosh this happened to me it was awful. No notice they just worked all night resurfacing the roads. My house was shaking it was so loud I literally didn’t sleep at all. I called in sick to work the next day and went to my mums house to sleep!

Underadesk · 07/11/2020 00:47

Shit happens op. But things like road resurfacing still needs to happen despite you having a baby. I’m sure people in the flats around might hear your baby cry at night too. Its one night. Some people have these sort of thhings happening for a week or longer.

You have no recourse.

We had this nearly 12 years ago, we had six month old twins. They deliberately started in the evening and worked until the Monday morning - I was working on the Saturday and I remember going out to them in tears begging them to stop. We only had single glazed windows at the time, the whole house was practically vibrating. I think they thought I was going to over them a brew Hmm.

I really feel for you but at least it’s only one night! They absolutely do not have to stop either - I’m going to assume that the person who managed to get them to pack up was talking to some independents rather that government people!
