To be sick of hearing: "If I can do X, why can't I do Y?"

Earlier I heard a religious leader on Radio 4 say "If people are allowed to go to the supermarket I don't understand why they can't go to church" ... and I've heard many examples of similar questions.

Do people really not understand this? Going to the supermarket is not risk-free, and neither is going to church. Obviously if you go to the supermarket and then go to church you're putting yourself at risk twice, rather than once. Multiplied over the entire church-going population, that's a huge amount of extra risk taking!

Of course, people can argue about what is "essential" risk-taking and what isn't, but they still need to understand this basic principle.

Most of the time they are comparing apples with oranges too. So much whining.

Yes its annoying people just don't get what limiting contacts mean

I agree it's annoying to hear but voted YABU because if the rules don't make sense, people are less likely to follow them. I think most people understand it's about reducing transmittion but it's easy to see why people are fed up and complaining.

Wouldn't try a circuit breaker in September but Boris has closed all the non essential shops so close to Christmas, allowed the pubs to stay open but they had to close for 10 as though that would make a huge difference, secondary school kids in bubbles of 200 other households but can't socialise properly with one household outside of school. Do the lockdown or don't. A lot of people understandably feel like the restrictions are a waste of time.

So so so sooooooo annoying.

I think the message 'Stay at Home' is fairly clear. Except for work if you are unable to work from home and to go out for food/ medical appointments etc. But everyone has to make decisions and manage their own risk. If that trip to the garden centre or whatever else is open is seemed 'essential' then so be it.

Hopefully the majority will understand what's required of them for 4 whole weeks.
