To ask if you are stiff when you get up from sitting/being imobile and why?

I'm almost 50. I'm active. I do a range of exercise from low to high impact.

I notice that when i get up in the morning or from sitting, I am stiff! My feet feel solid as do my legs.

It's fine after a minute.

Is this the onset of arthritis or from not doing enough yoga like movement to counteract the exercise?

I found that because I was wearing slippers most of the day (working at home) caused me to be very stiff. I bought a cheap paid of laceups to wear in the house and it’s made the works of difference. I also got a cradle for my laptop to rise it and a keyboard and mouse.

Get up and stretch every 40 mins or so and get out for a run a few times a week. I have a Exercycle but it’s being used as a shirt rack at the moment!

I am mid-40s and have been like this for at least 6 years I think. Especially the solid feet in the morning. I did not worry though as it sorts itself out very quickly.

@ChristmasFluff - doesn't heavy weight lifting make you feel really tight and fatigued? That happens when I do too much

And I got injuries like achilles tedonitis etc. Adding to the stiffness

Yep. Me too - menopausal though small doses of testosterone I take helps. Which particular high strength vit d would anyone recommend?

CeibaTree · 06/11/2020 17:27

I used to be really stiff until I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease. I was advised to give up gluten as part of the management and my joint stiffness went away after a few weeks and has never come back.

Like a scissor lift, in sections until I'm upright.
Complete with a soundtrack.
Angry
I am completely unfit though.

lljkk · 06/11/2020 17:35

Because I'm fit - seriously. I have aches from exercising hard. These are worse after a day with more exercise than usual if I then sit still too long. Main thing is to keep moving. Was same when I was a teenager.

garlictwist · 06/11/2020 17:43

I'm 39 and if I get up for the loo in the night I have to shuffle there as I'm so stiff I can't walk. I'm also active and stretch a lot so not sure what else I can do.

doadeer · 06/11/2020 17:49

Is it joint mobility or right muscles?

doadeer · 06/11/2020 17:50

Tight muscles - sorry autocorrect

MitziK · 06/11/2020 18:24

Yep.

Psoriatic Arthritis. It affects the joints, skin and, just to mix things up a little compared to other flavours of autoimmune disease, absolutely bolloxes the tendons - Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder - anywhere a tendon enthesis is, at some point, it fucks up big time. And the morning stiffness can last until about 2pm, just about ready for the 3pm tired and stiff.

Referral to Rheumatology, diagnosis, treatment, medication, plus yoga , a good mattress/pillows, constantly being aware of posture and expensive but utterly sensible footwear with orthotics are the best ways to deal with it.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 06/11/2020 18:25

Mid 30s with a job that involves a lot of movement. When I get home and sit for say a half hour I'm incredibly stiff and everything hurts. Thought it was just normal

Sundiamond · 07/11/2020 08:24

So, we know VIT D is important.

Any other key supplements people take to help with the stiffness/joints?

Thanks

I know they say the optimum dose of vit d is 4000 iu.

When I run out of my Solgar brand I will move over to the Holland & Barrett brand which also contains vitamin K though.... Slightly off topic but supposed to be good to prevent a bad bout of corona virus.
