To throw away previous owners post?

I haven't. But I want to. It's probably illegal, I will check in a minute.

Moved to this house a year ago, previous owners had 4 generations living here.
For the first 3-4 months I was sending tons and tons of post back with 'return to sender no longer at this address.

It worked for some, but others came again and again. I would write in massive capital letters and still they would keep sending. (What the hell is Whistl and why can't they read their returned post?!)
SO many catalogues (I didn't bother sending them back).

Eventually the previous owner got in touch because her scan date came through the post. Her husband still hasn't changed his address at the doctors because we all got a letter about our doctors changing and he had a letter that looked identical on the outside so if I'm right then he STILL hasn't changed it.

I've returned their post to them 7-8 times.

I made a point of saying "let me know who the companies are and I will call them myself and tell them you have moved."

But even that passive aggressive stance didn't work (I've asked nicely, but now it's just annoying)

And STILL it keeps coming.
I've had post yesterday and today for them.

I want to throw it away.

What else can I do?!

When I moved from one rented home to another I wrote to my GP in advance giving my new address. They sent confirmation of the change of address to my old address.

In another rented home we received endless mail for the previous tenants for debts. Was kind of satisfying however when one of the letters was a refund from a catalogue (back in the days when companies still sent cheques)

The first house I bought was from a lady who had moved in with her parents round the corner so she regularly came round for her post. Long story short we became friends and it was through her that I met my future DH. Good things happen too.

When I moved in here the previous occupants had run a business which went bankrupt. They tried to illegally involve me in forwarding some money to due them but my solicitor said not to get involved. I just dropped their stuff back in the mail as "no longer at this address".

Several debt collectors turned up. They were polite and went away as soon as I showed them my passport. Then one turned up who was rude. As well as my passport (which I kept handy) he wanted to see mortgage papers or a tenancy agreement. I got quite angry with him and told him I was under no obligation to produce documentation for him or anyone else. I was so angry I told him their current address which I had found out. I dont usually snitch but I was angry with them for leaving me to sort out their mess. I also threatened him with the police and he left quickly.

Thereafter I decided I was not a postal redirection service. I simply binned anything not addressed to me and made no attempt to send it back.

Just bin it. We rented our house out for a couple of months while we were away, and three years later we are still getting their post. If they were bothered about it, they’d have contacted the company to change their address. The post is abandoned by this point.
