Ds 11 months ran a fever last night and projectile vomiting. Took him to A&E but they said he seems fine and looks like a viral infection.

They gave him some ibuprofen and he woke up this morning fine. He’s ran a fever again and been dry retching but has kept food down. He’s had calpol and neurofen.

I have severe health anxiety and I am panicking like mad. They told me not to even think of meningitis as he’s had viral one and they’ve said it’s not the bacterial one. I just feel like taking him back for another opinion.

@graceelli121

Does anyone have any idea how long typically these viruses last?
Depending on the virus that causes it anything up to 5-7 days in total. So long as calpol/nurofen bring down any temperature, he still drinks and has wet nappies there’s no need to get him seen again. Obviously if he seems more sleepy than normal, isn’t drinking and doesn’t seem to be having wet nappies (not always easy to tell when they’ve got diarrhoea) of if meds don’t bring temperature down then seek medical advice again xx

Can people stop telling the OP it was ‘inappropriate’ to take her poorly baby to hospital? It’s dangerous misinformation.

Coffeecak3 · 07/11/2020 14:15

@flaviaritt absolutely.

There is no problem going to A&E if you need to.

You will be assessed on arrival and when appropriate kept well away from any one with covid symptoms.
It's really dangerous to scare people away from receiving medical attention when they need it.

Paracetamol to bring a temp down, don't give someone with sore stomach ibroprofen, honestly don't. Stuff is from the pits of hell if someone has sensitive stomach ie acid refulx ect and can cause ulcers.
When it comes to your child, do what you think is best, if you want to take your child to ane then take him, you know your child better than anyone else here. If he's on the mend then that's good but next time go with your own instincts

@Brunt0n

I think you’ve had a bit of a hard time here OP. Your wee one has given you a few scares in his 11 months, so it’s understandable that you’re anxious. We are constantly told as mothers to trust our instincts. Don’t feel bad for trusting yours!

I hope your little one is better soon Flowers

I was thinking the same thing, OP.

No wonder you're anxious.......... Any time we had to take DD the docs always said they'd rather see a child 100 times and send them home rather than take any risks.

graceelli121 · 07/11/2020 17:11

DS hasn’t been sick since 9 on Thursday, and no temp today, enjoying the slimy shits though (NOT!!!) but at least he’s all okay

Thank you everyone x
