Son has croup - isolate?

DS has croup (diagnosed) which obviously means he has a (barking) cough. This is fairly mild. Will keep him off nursery but AIBU not to isolate the whole family?

I’d say croup is one of the few coughs that are very easy to distinguish from any other respiratory illness so in our house I’d be confident with the diagnosis and wouldn’t self isolate. However, what did the clinician who diagnosed him say? Hope he’s on the mend, it’s a scary illness when it happens but they are over it quickly once treated!

Croup is just a type of cough that can be caused by multiple different infections. Coronavirus can cause croup, RSV can cause croup, as can others. No way to tell it’s not coronavirus without testing. What did the doctor say?

Croup is contagious. I got adult croup and seriously thought I could die. I was on steroids and painkillers. I was producing so much saliva I couldn't swallow because my throat was closing up.
I think the person that has it has to isolate for 3 days.

Croup is a cough.

Whole family needs to isolate. DS needs COVID test.

Listen to this COVID patient's cough - at start - it's a croup type cough...

We made the decision to get him tested and keep the kids off/ work from home today. Got a neighbour to drop round milk (and chocolate) and will just sort house stuff for the weekend.

Isn’t the steroids they use for Covid the same as for croup now? I thought Covid cough was similar as croup.
