Ditchling

Hi folks

Does anyone live in / have experience of living in Ditchling? We are set to move early next year, I absolutely love the village and location wise it is perfect for us, but I am slightly worried that there are not many young families in the village and it may be a bit ‘conservative’. I have two lively young kids and am really hoping that we are moving into an active community (I’m looking for toddler play dates rather than wild nights out!). Any chance experiences from mumsnetters gratefully received!

Hi I live near Ditchling and it is lovely, Macs farm and stoneywish nature reserve are great for young families. However, my view is that it is a bit cliquey, with young kids I'd look at Hassocks which right next to it.

I'm not far away, I'd agree that Hassocks is a great place for young families. Ditchling is beautiful though.

I have an acquaintance who lives there and has a very Jilly Cooper novel type of life - lots of local affairs, lock ins and raucousness (although perhaps cpvid has put the kibosh on that for now!). Quite shocking really, but she loves living there. I'm sure that this doesn't reflect the whole village though!

My goodness! When i saw your title i thought some parent to be had come up with yet another hideous "out there" name for a poor infant! Having read the thread i can now sleep easy.

Interesting feedback! Why do you think Hassocks is more attractive for young families than Ditchling, different housing stock?

Hi, I’m local and grew up near where you’re mentioning. In my view Ditchling is very pretty, lovely park and duck pond etc but hassocks is just bigger and has more toddler groups etc (not at the moment though eh!) hurst also has lots of groups. Hassocks also has the secondary school. I think it’s a lovely area to grow up, your children will love it!
