to think I've figured out the nature of Trump's genius

so, I think I've got it! I know how he does it!

I think his genius is that he makes his enemies look down on his supporters, and the one thing everyone but everyone hates is being looked down on.

I was reflecting on Michael Moore's comment yesterday, that Trump is an evil genius. That most people focus too much on the evil but that Moore has learned to focus on the Genius bit.

And then I thought about what right-wing commentators like Steve Crowder say ("don't marry a Democrat because she will despise you") and at my own Trump-supporting US family member who is sick of being told to be nicer by people with secure jobs and government pensions.

And I thought - that's it! He knows that every enemy he makes will say "how can people vote for him?" and therefore make him two friends"

AIBU to wish I'd figured this out in 2014 before it was too late?

Not my problem.

It’s everyone’s problem.

@lingle

By 2015 he was on a roll.....
Yeah but why would it have made a difference if you had known the secret to his genius in 2014? Were you in a position to stop him? Are you Melania? Grin

I just meant it would have been nice to not have been so bewildered by his success for the past 6 years.

Maybe we've just reached a point were the media is 90% owned by right wingers and people can come out with utter shit like 'polish people jump to the front of housing ques' without being challenge on their nonsense?
It’s simplistic but with some truth. Families who live in social housing ( ex council estates in the city centres ) struggle with finding houses for younger relatives who are moving but want to remain in their area. It’s easy to scoff at this but I teach in one of these areas and through work, now have 2 close friends who live on this estate. . It is like a village in a city with multiple generations living in the same area . Friendship groups are also extremely strong with many residents having attended school together and living in the same neighbourhood their whole lives. It is a specific culture and the resentments are real when recent immigrants are given houses. I am not saying this is right or wrong but if you dismiss people’s real lived experience as a creation of the right wing media, it is a surefire way to breed resentment. Also portraying it as racism is off the mark. It is a historically ethnically diverse and well integrated area.

I just saw your reply 7days. I agree that it came across as sneering.
