England to follow Wales and restrict non- essential items

Oh, well this is awkward if it’s true given the multiple threads on here slagging off Wales over this:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/inews.co.uk/news/consumer/lockdown-supermarket-rules-restrictions-non-essential-items-aisles-shelves-cordon-off-748342/amp

Aibu to think it’s also a shitshow!

YANBU for thinking it's an absolute shitshow, mainly because it is an absolute shitshow. One person's idea of non-essential could be the next person's essential, as an example from previous news stories if your kettle or microwave breaks then you're going to consider a new kettle or microwave to be an essential.

This is just simply not true. Everything is available here to click and collect - gift shops, chocolate shop, clothes shops everything, local shops selling cakes are also selling everything else no worries.

Nope we are definitely not following Wales!!!!!!!!! Grin

I think this is a very good version of lockdown and better than I feared. Seems to be like many retailers are finding ways around it

Hayeahnobut · 04/11/2020 16:34

@Ihaveyourback The Grocer is a reliable news source. This information has come from a government briefing to retailers. It might not be definite yet, but if the government deem too many people are going to the shops, they could bring it in very quickly.

Wales england scotland or NI

Its still a stupid bloody idea

Numberblock7 · 04/11/2020 16:39

Amazon it is then.

MoonJelly · 04/11/2020 16:52

From that article:

While supermarkets will be able to continue selling goods other than those considered vital from “mixed aisles” featuring both essential and non-essential items during the second month-long lockdown, stores will reportedly be instructed to cordon off those which contain only non-essential products only

Huh? Surely all supermarkets need to do is to mix up their aisles?

OneForMeToo · 04/11/2020 16:54

Well one of my children’s birthday is this month so Amazon for balloons and everything then.

WhentheDealGoesDown · 04/11/2020 16:55

I'l just get everything from Amazon anyway, won't most people

cardswapping · 04/11/2020 17:00

The inews article does not reference any source "it is understood". I cannot fact check it. Is the news reported on guardian/times/bbc? They tend to double check their sources a tad more.

The latest on the BBC does not seem to mention this: The new lockdown rules for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland [[https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-52530518]]

Ihaveyourback · 04/11/2020 17:22

Most of our shops are staying open for business, either selling 'food' essential whilst also selling others things mainly - or they are doing a click and collect service. Barely any if any at all are closing. Even the pub is doing takeaway food and drinks.

I don't think this will increase the infection rate at all, and I very much doubt they will get any complaints around here! Most people can see the stats themselves, and know shops are not behind the latest spike in cases!

Mistymonday · 04/11/2020 17:43

People will just get it on Amazon, not sure what the point is.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/11/2020 17:48

Message last week.... Dont Panic buy, shops are staying open.
Message now... Thou must not buy wrapping paper with your vegetables.

Maybe that massive queue outsid Card Factory had th right idea after all.

MercyBooth · 05/11/2020 01:22

This will affect poorer people who dont shop online or do click and collect which is basically the same thing.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 05/11/2020 09:39

Our local marks and sparks is staying open...its part of a shopping centre and i think the other shop managers are going to be very pissed offf
