About toilets at work?

My workplace is now operating with a skeleton staff, which means there are only 3 women working and a lot more men (probably around 15-20).

There are men's and ladies toilets, each with 3 cubicles in each - standard public loos with 'gaps' at the front and to the side so the walls are not down to the floor.

It has been proposed that the men can use the ladies loos too, and to make all the toilets unisex. This is apparently to minimise risk from too many men using the same loos.

The thought makes me feel violated. I'm on my period at the moment and I hate the thought of it. Apparently they are allowed to make the loos unisex but it doesn't feel right to me?

Maybe I'm being precious about it - I know it's a workplace which is different to public loos but even so.

No way. I hate those stall toilets with a passion.

I’d have a hard time being annoyed about this, especially if they’re going to make each toilet block one in one out (check to see) but even if they didn’t a toilet is a toilet, from my experience some women can be just as gross as men and leave the toilets in the state. Nothing to get hysterical about

@Whatsnewpussyhat

They cannot leave the Male only toilet (with urinals?) and remove the female only toilet (making it unisex). This is sex discrimination.
Male toilets have sit down toilets as well.... or else how will they poo?

Who has come up with the idea?
At my work this was mentioned as part of the covid secure workplace stuff.
It was rapidly established that neither male nor female were comfortable with it. And what ever were written on the doors, boys toilets were on the left and girls on the right. Decided nothing would change.

It is always women who lose out! I don't mind trans women using the ladies room obviously but I have a hard enough time sometimes sharing a bathroom with men I love let alone any others. I would object very strongly. In our place it is one at a time so everyone is queuing. The men can just queue for longer like we usually have to do. Poor lambs ...

Think yourself lucky , I’m a teacher so going to the loo at work is a privilege

MLMbotsgoaway · 07/11/2020 07:15

Surely though there were say 60 men who used the existing toilets before?

I’ve worked in offices with unisex toilets and it is a bit grim.

HmmHmm

Making all toilets unisex means no urinals, so overall fewer toilets. The reasons why unisex toilets are intrusive and inappropriate for women have been well put, and to add to this, I doubt most men would approve either.

@iloveruby

Often go all day without a wee

shrunkenhead · 07/11/2020 08:54

I really don't get the issue. What difference does it make having a period? It's not like anyone in neighbouring cubicles we know, or care, for that matter. I honestly don't understand this "men are the enemy" mentality. I'm a feminist and there are bigger issues than who uses which loo!

This. I've worked in more than one office with unisex toilets, it has never been a problem.
