Given yesterday’s ruling, I’d there anyone else not feeling like this is right?

I have no Johnny Depp crush nor a fan but...

If you ever left a sociopath, does it not feel
Like the wrong verdict?

A victim of abuse feels worthless and shamed. I don’t understand how a victim goes to papers over polices day various other things about the case disturb me.

I left a abuse but also know males who have - I didn’t hear all the evidence as I wasn’t in court. But I genuinely feel that this is sociopathy over abuse.

I know that I will be shot down for this but ... I also know victims of sociopaths have no voice.

I’m not 100% sure what your Op is really getting at but... this was a libel case not a criminal case. The judge ruled in favour of the scum and not Depp. It was Depp’s behaviour that was being questioned if you like, in relation to the articles the scum wrote. Amber Heard’s behaviour, alleged or otherwise, wasn’t up for debate for want of a better word, as she wasn’t the one suing the newspaper, her ex husband was. And he lost.

Sorry!

I was just so riled yesterday but more by the women’s charities stating that the case would encourage more women to speak out about abuse. The case was a civil case about whether the Sun had sufficient evidence upon which to publish the story ie on the balance of probability could they rely on what Amber was reporting to them not a criminal conviction. Hence whether anything was truth or not was less relevant than whether she had provided them with sufficient evidence to publish.

I left an abusive marriage and I know others both male and female who have so am sympathetic to those in that situation.

Using the word sociopath was also wrong but was meant about behaviours rather than labelling.

The thing is that this case would make me less likely to speak out about abuse. (And I mean to police etc rather than publicly.)

I'm still not sure what point you're making. Why would this case make anyone less likely to speak out about abuse to the police? I can't imagine anything happening between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard would ever influence any decisions I made in any way. Who are you calling a sociopath?

Still clear as mud 😂

You might be an outlier OP.
This case will help encourage women to speak out - when previously they might've been deterred by threats of "They won't believe you" and attempts to smear the victim as "toxic".

Here's Nicki Norman of Women's Aid on the Sun:

Nicki Norman, chief executive of Women’s Aid, said: “The allegations of domestic abuse against Johnny Depp were extremely serious.

“Everyone who has experienced domestic abuse deserves to be listened to and believed.

This also applies to survivors who do not fit the image of the "perfect victim - and regardless of the high profile of the alleged abuser.

There is no excuse for domestic abuse.”

SheepandCow · 04/11/2020 17:56

The Sun:

Lisa King, of Refuge, said: “This is an important ruling and one which we hope sends a very powerful message: A common tactic used by perpetrators of domestic abuse is to repeatedly tell victims that no one will believe them - and to use power and control to try and silence them

Oh - and here's just one of the many confirmed incidents of serious violence:

In December 2015, Depp chucked a glass decanter at Amber at their LA home in a drug binge. He also slapped her and dragged her through the apartment by her hair - ripping a chunk out. He then hit her again in the back of the head and headbutted her in the face and screamed 'I will f*ing kill you'. Depp then pushed her face in the mattress and repeatedly punched her in the back of the head
