Covid - WWYD?

So my DH was poorly towards the beginning of last week - went for a test and it came back negative. He felt better for a couple of days then went downhill again with flu symptoms (no temp or anosmia) and now has a chest infection.

He spoke to the doc and 111 yesterday and they advised him to treat himself a if it is Covid, albeit he's probably had it and he's just suffering the after effects. They recommended a second test anyway, and that's also come back negative.

I whipped my DS out of school yesterday and was v upset that we were looking at 14 days isolation.

But neither me nor DS are symptomatic even though DH is feeling quite poorly, and although I can WFH, DS is obvs missing school.

I want to send him back to school based in DHs second negative test, but I honestly don't know if that's the right thing to do? Its all so confusing.

So, WWYD?

YABU - all stay at home and continue to isolate
YANBU - its just man flu. No need to isolate for Covid

If your dh is negative you don't need to isolate.

Bluetonic41 · 03/11/2020 18:20

Your DH has had 2 negative tests, why on earth would you treat it as you would a positive results? What a ridiculous suggestion from your GPHmm

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/11/2020 18:22

Two negs is pretty conclusive really, he probably either has flu or a common virus, albeit a shitty one, so do what you'd do if this was any other time.

SkyeIsPink · 03/11/2020 18:24

I don’t think there’s a need to self isolate with 2 negative tests! I wish people would stop acting as if Covid 19 is the only virus out there!

Scotstar85 · 03/11/2020 18:31

Thanks all. Am fully aware that we don't ordinarily need to isolate following a neg result, but the HCP advice we received yesterday contradicted this and the last thing I would want to do is think that we were putting anyone at risk.

I'm with you lot - I don't think its necessary in his instance at all!

No need at all to isolate, your ds should be in school.

Scotstar85 · 03/11/2020 18:59

Some really patronising replies amongst the helpful ones, so thanks for that.

We're definitely going through a time where we need people to be less helpful and more nobbish so well done! Biscuit

It could still be Covid (might not be, but it could be. False negatives aren’t unheard of (positive on the 4th test is the most I’ve seen). In hospital if someone is high-risk in terms of symptoms but has a negative test they would still be treated as being likely to have Covid, reflecting that there is a false negative rate.

Scotstar85 · 03/11/2020 19:42

Thats what we're concerned about @Greybeardy. It feels hard to trust whatever systems are in place when so many people have had misleading/inconclusive results. The first test i ever took, a couple of months back, I never got the results from. I was lost in the system! And a couple if people I know who've testes positive have subsequently had multiple (up to half a dozen!)calls from track and trace telling them they've been in contact with someone. Its ridiculous really.
