To worry about COVID after MOT?

anxiiousone · 03/11/2020 17:44

I admit I am very anxious about COVID. Got chronic lung disease.

Car was at MOT yesterday and I got into it just after it was done. Paperwork was on seat waiting for me. I forgot to open the windows to air it out!!

Been reading so much about aerosol transmission. What if there were aerosols floating in the air? Enclosed space and no ventilation.

Was doing so well so far but now this!

HELP! 😱

Done now, don’t give it another seconds thought.

You’ll be fine 😊

Sparklesocks · 03/11/2020 17:57

The risk is very small.

TickTickClock · 03/11/2020 18:01

Done now; but a very, very small risk so try not to worry.
My garage clean my car after a service and this time around I got a sheet of paper with tick boxes of everything they'd sanitised - steering wheel, gearstick, indicators, door handles etc

Oh crikey! Thank you.

I swear I feel a cold coming on and I never get colds. DP says I am imagining it now.

Thanks. Garage say they sanitise. Scrubbed hands when I got home and didn't touch face. Just breathing in the air particles or whatever the heck they're called freaks me out.

Sure you're right. I'm in a low-risk area but my worrying is getting out of control.
OP posts:
anxiiousone · 03/11/2020 18:08

I don't think I'd survive it if I got it - my breathing is not great as it is.

Doesn’t the air droplets fall down so wouldn't be floating around your car?

Also unlikely the person sat in your car would shut the doors while working on it and that they even have covid.

MissScarletInTheSnug · 03/11/2020 18:17

Most garages are following covid safe practises and wearing masks when in car and then sanitising it after. I am sure you will be fine.

roara · 03/11/2020 18:18

Surely the doors are open whilst they work in the car so I would presume it was well ventilated!

QueenPaws · 03/11/2020 18:21

I work for a dealership. We are
Windows open in car
Masks and gloves worn
Car sanitised before it's given back as well as the usual vac/clean inside
Keys sanitised
ANY symptoms and you aren't allowed near the place and our management are incredibly hot on that

Elieza · 03/11/2020 18:21

Any droplets would have fallen down onto the surfaces not be in the air by the time you got into the car.

Think how a dog shakes water off his back. The particles fly up and then gravity pulls them down within seconds. Even if you extend that to minutes, I’m presuming your car was parked, you went into the garage, got your MOT and keys, walked back to the car where it had been parked for, what, at least half an hour waiting for you once it was done?

As long as you washed your hands properly and didn’t touch your face while they were ‘dirty’ you will be fine.

Cold symptoms are different from COVID.

Don’t worry.

LIZS · 03/11/2020 18:23

They don't stay inside the car for long, just start engine, flick switches etc. Buy a spray disinfectant and squirt around but risk is really very low.

I never even thought of that! My mind just went ahead to anxiety - thank you.

Thank you yes they seemed pretty strict with the going into the office bit - Plenty safety procedures there.

I have not got much information about COVID which seems unbelievable as I am so full of anxiety about it - but I try to avoid reading too much about COVID and then of course I worry I have got it while not knowing that much about it.

Yes it is a confusing mess!

Cold and flu viruses have normally a 3 day incubation period so you can’t have caught a cold that quickly. Same is with Covid hence the 2-7 day incubation period but average will be around 3 days.

Calm yourself @anxiiousone

Therapy for hearth anxiety might help?

yawnsvillex · 03/11/2020 21:40

Set light to it. You'll be safe then.

Thank you - yes I do need to do something. My DP who is patient is telling me I need perspective. Going to practice some mindfulness and stuff from the internet.
