AIBU to ask if I was your cleaner

Would you want to know my Ds was from today self isolating as he was sitting next to someone yesterday for 5 hours and now that person has tested positive.

I'm a cleaner in other people's homes. Ive been told I do not need to stay in but our house is that small I cannot socially distance from him.

Neither of us has symptoms, I've had CV in March.

Would you want me round to clean in the next 14 days?

No!!

Itsokthanks · 03/11/2020 17:54

I would want to know so I have the option to cancel.

kowari · 03/11/2020 17:55

Yes, without a second thought. We are not vulnerable though.

geekaMaxima · 03/11/2020 17:56

It depends. If I could be out of the house (exercising?) while you're there, had no vulnerable people in the household, and you wore a mask... then yes I'd still probably want you round to clean.

I'd want to know and decide for myself, though, as the above wouldn't actually be feasible in my house.

Tootsey11 · 03/11/2020 17:57

I have contacted first client, elderly lady, and she isn't bothered about cv. Wants her house cleaned as normal.

PinkPlantCase · 03/11/2020 17:57

It think you should atleast let people know. You might not not who is vulnerable or who has caring responsibilities for people who are very vulnerable. Some people might be fine with it, if you tell them they can make their own judgement of the risk.

PinkPlantCase · 03/11/2020 17:58

*know

Ladyformation · 03/11/2020 18:33

I'd like to be told, but I'd still want you to work if you were comfortable doing so.

Audreyseyebrows · 03/11/2020 18:34

You need to give people the choice

Tootsey11 · 03/11/2020 18:35

Well, next client contacted has cancelled. So no work tomorrow.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 03/11/2020 18:40

@Audreyseyebrows

You need to give people the choice
I agree. Let them know so they can decide if it’s worth the risk.
charlieclown · 03/11/2020 18:53

Can you clean for me? My cleaner didn't come today at short notice again and I am annoyed.

kowari · 03/11/2020 19:31

@Tootsey11

Well, next client contacted has cancelled. So no work tomorrow.
You need to self isolate if you or someone you live with has symptoms or a positive test. As you don't need to self isolate I wouldn't say anything, some people are afraid, some for good reason some not, you tell them and they just worry.
Bluntness100 · 03/11/2020 19:35

I’d want to know but I’d still let you come.

Noflora · 03/11/2020 19:38

I'd want to know. I would cancel but pay you anyway.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 03/11/2020 19:38

Yes I would want to know as I'm vulnerable and would prefer not to take the risk. It's not fair op but you really need to let everyone know.

ThrawnCow · 03/11/2020 19:42

You could come here unless your DC developed symptoms.

thenightsky · 03/11/2020 19:43

If you know for sure you had it in March, then yes I'd still have you round.

Cocomarine · 03/11/2020 19:43

I would want to know, but I’d probably tell you to come anyway - and I’d probably pay you either way.

ItsmineAllmine · 03/11/2020 19:45

You don't need to let anyone know. You don't need to isolate, you can go to work as normal. No need to notify anyone.

Sushirolls · 03/11/2020 19:47

I wouldn't cancel you, but I'd want to know.

MiddleClassMother · 03/11/2020 19:48

I'd want to know but I don't think it's required. For what it's worth I'd still have you round, just keep my distance and ensure you don't use any cups/mugs etc like normal. If I didn't want you round as I felt the risk was too high I'd still pay you. Is the client paying you or do you have to claim sick pay?

Tootsey11 · 03/11/2020 19:49

Well so far only one cancellation, two more to ask and two fine to work.

OP posts:
Tootsey11 · 03/11/2020 19:53

In all my years as a cleaner, I have never been offered payment if a client has cancelled a clean.

No offer of payment.

OP posts:
MintyMabel · 03/11/2020 19:58

I wouldn’t want you to come round, but I would pay you though.

I say this as a person who generally resists the notion you should pay people for not working for you, but to me it is really important to support people who really should be isolating and never having to force them to make a choice not it. I know officially you don’t have to, but to me that rule is ridiculous.
