I just lost it over parking

I live near a post office and a woman just rudely parked outside my drive and was on her way into the post office when I shouted out the window that I'd like her to move her car.

Do you need access to the drive was her reply.

That's not the point, it's called being respectful and I said she should park down the road - literally loads of space like 20 yards further down (quiet residential road).

She got aggressive. I got aggressive. Words were had, she stormed off... I went outside but she obviously knew I wasn't letting it go and she came back and moved her car - together with name calling - which I returned.

Thing is, I don't know why it bothers me. I feel out of sorts at the moment with lockdown and my fuse is really short.

People parking in front of my drive are pissing me off.

But why do I feel off - is it because I'm stuck at home all day working and not getting out much?

You don’t actually say if she was parked over your drive blocking entrance and exit?

If she was YANBU, if she wasn’t YABU.

Re losing your temper and feeling off.... I believe lots, huge amounts of people are feeling this way. It’s fear, loss of control, loss of freedom, uncertainty. Go easy on yourself and maybe take some steps to de-stress and focus on something positive, like a hobby.

lifestooshort123 · 02/11/2020 16:34

I think you're just a bit ratty cos of everything that's happening. I'm the same but I wouldn't worry about it as she shouldn't have parked there - she was a rude moose as my grandson would say!

FudgeBrownie2019 · 02/11/2020 16:35

Tempers flare far more quickly when people are irritable, worried and anxious. It's human nature to revert back to a more caveman-style of being when you feel vulnerable.

Neither of you came out of it a champion - live and learn and try to find ways to still ensure you get out and about wherever you can. I've been working from home since March and our poor dog has never had so many walks - he looks at me sometimes as though he's saying "fucks sake, not again Ma" but I know if I don't force myself to keep physically active and busy I could easily tip into yelling at folk who park over my driveway. Let it go and accept that you're a flawed human like the rest of us.

PlanDeRaccordement · 02/11/2020 16:36

YABU even if she was blocking your drive because you weren’t needing to use it right then. She was doing you no harm whatsoever.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 02/11/2020 16:37

Well she was rude so deserved it.

MaisyMary77 · 02/11/2020 16:41

She deserved it. I live near our local post office. Drives me up the wall when people park across my drive and say they will be back in just a couple of minutes.

StoneofDestiny · 02/11/2020 16:43

Don't think she'll park there again ..........sorted.

Longdistance · 02/11/2020 16:45

Oh just have a go and a rant at her. Honestly it’s not the difficult to not park over someone’s driveway.
I got loud hearty ‘Oh go on, fuck off will ya!’ Goes a long way.

Dustysilkflowers · 02/11/2020 16:47

Sounds amazing!

My friend has been have a school parking war for years. Parents block her access most days. They double park so emergency services can’t get down.

One day she named and shamed of facebook. Took a photo complete with Reg and posted it. A big Range Rover. Turned out it was a coppers Hmm

somelemons · 02/11/2020 16:51

Well done. It is thoughtless, inconsiderate and downright rude to park where you damn well please and block someone's drive for your own convenience.

diddl · 02/11/2020 16:53

People used to park across my dad's drive as "there's no car on it".

No-it was in the garage at the end of said drive!

So many people were shocked by that!

Fabvegetablegrower · 02/11/2020 16:56

Good for you. It's just laziness.

InFiveMins · 02/11/2020 16:58

Good for you. She was in the wrong. She will probably think twice before doing it again!

pigcon1 · 02/11/2020 16:58

In my childhood, if you parked inconsiderately, one of our neighbours would put golden syrup on the driver door handle of the offending car. Everyone knew which neighbour this was and if you were syruped you probably deserved it...

lanthanum · 02/11/2020 17:00

There's a small car park (4/5 cars) opposite our Post Office. At the weekend I saw someone park on the double-yellow blocking the entrance to the car park, and get out to nip to the PO.

Nottherealslimshady · 02/11/2020 17:01

Was it over a dropped kerb?
I cant imagine getting shitty about it, unless she was staying for hours.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/11/2020 17:01

Hmmm, delivery drivers (Amazon, Sainsbury’s, Royal Mail, DPD - ALL THE DELIVERY DRIVERS 😂) block my drive daily. But that’s because it’s one of the few pulling in places down our lane. And I know they won’t be long so I’m fine with that. But if it was some random parking there, wandering off, with no guarantee of how long they’d be, and if there was plenty of other parking places, yes I’d be pissed off and probably tell them to shift.

Macncheeseballs · 02/11/2020 17:02

Lazy people really get on my nerves

EatTheHamTina · 02/11/2020 17:02

I'd be the same if someone parked over my drive it's just rude and inconsiderate.

Baby oil comes in very handy sometimes. Squirts out of the bottle on it's own if accidentally squeezed.
Peakypolly · 02/11/2020 17:09

I feel like this whatever else is going on in my life so you are deffo NBU.
It sometimes seems drivers are blind to driveway access, particularly if, as diddl says, no car is visible. If you are on a tight schedule with pick ups, work etc. even waiting for 5 minutes can buggar up your day. (Can you tell I also live near a shop?)

pigcon1 · 02/11/2020 17:17

It's setting a precedent. If she does it once and nothing is said the cheeky mare will think she can get away with it.
