To think the government could stretch to a clicker?

I realise there’s greater problems at the moment, but I get irrational rage when watching the government briefings on corona, and the speaker has to keep saying “next slide please” during powerpoints.

I can’t help but feel that with the billions they’ve spunked on pointless track & trace etc, they could cough up for a clicker so that they could just move on to the next slide themselves? You know, like every teacher/lecturer in the land has? You can get them for less than a tenner on Amazon, in case anyone in office is reading this.

Maybe they’re worried about having to sanitise it while passing it back and forth

Babysharkdoodoodood · 02/11/2020 13:52

And the slides don't fit the screen! Bits off the sides cropped off.

And a real bugbear. They cram so much on that you can't read it all!

Littlescottiedog · 02/11/2020 13:52

I always assumed it was to do with the fact the computer with the slides was also hooked up to be broadcast and that meant a clicker wouldn't work. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MushMonster · 02/11/2020 14:17

I think it has to do with the media having a copy of the slides, so they are asking them to show the next slide in the TV while they record the speech live. And yes, not sure why they cannot make the slides fit properly in the screen and edit it all so the sign speaker is not covering parts of the slide. But that is surely the BBC responsibility, not the goverment one.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/11/2020 14:19

I thought it was to make them look more powerful anf authoritative. Grin

AgentJohnson · 02/11/2020 14:20

The level of ineptitude on display and their willing to broadcast never fails to surprise me.

MLMbotsgoaway · 02/11/2020 14:24

It irrationally annoys me too. “Next slide please” Angry

edwinbear · 02/11/2020 14:28

YANBU OP. I cannot believe that with all the fantastic technology that exists, there is no such thing as a clicker that will link up to whatever is being broadcast. It is incredibly annoying - but very much a first world problem admittedly.

Mokusspokus · 02/11/2020 14:30

Me too, it interrupts the flow of the information.!!.. Very annoying!!

Ohtherewearethen · 02/11/2020 15:02

It's probably so they can justify employing their wife's hairdresser's son on £40,000 a year to click 'next' on the laptop slides.

Yep I think you’ve solved the mystery there Grin

yes, probably
but what is the point of showing all the graphs when we can't see them properly? are they available to download later? (not that I actually would in reality) if he could even point to the bits he was talking about it would help

Jellycatspyjamas · 02/11/2020 17:01

We have a government who don’t have enough wit to put together a proper PowerPoint presentation, I imagine throwing a clicker into the mix may be a multi-task too far.

UnconvincingUsername · 02/11/2020 17:03

DH says this every single time. Why on Earth don’t they just control their own slides?
