Sorry its not really an AIBU is it?

I'm just wondering not that we are in this situation ( again) for how long nobody knows........what " works" for you?

I don't have young dependent children so a great deal of time on my. hands.

Thanks in advance.

I knit and crochet - I find the process calming, and making things is satisfying and feels productive

I have always had tons of hobbies. I’m just working through my backlog.

I’m studying Spanish, paper crafting, sewing, and embroidery. Dd and I have been paint pouring and exploring different techniques. The past month was spent on building a working net gun for DD’s Halloween costume (even though for Halloween this year the candy came from the store). I’m also building lego sets. Took an online calligraphy class. I’m thinking about some additional online classes for sprin. I haven’t had a moment of boredom. There is always something to do or learn, plenty to read. I’ve been writing a short story in my head and even have some snippets saved on my phone but can’t quite bring myself to write formally because I’ve never been great at it. I still might give it a try.

I have an Oculus quest virtual reality headset. It's perfect for lockdown - I use it for fitness, going to a virtual movie theater, museum visits, traveling, playing games, socialising, etc. It's saved my sanity honestly.

flaviaritt · 02/11/2020 14:31

Read up on the progress on vaccines.

randomer · 03/11/2020 12:48

Not really interested in Science funnily enough but thanks for the suggestion.

I'll be calling my loved ones once a week to break the isolation.

I've bought a cheap rowing machine to help me stay healthy and combat low mood.

I'll also take up cross stitching for the first time.

randomer · 03/11/2020 18:04

mmm, like the rowing machine idea. i have never had a hobby unfortunately.

I’m relearning a language that I thought I had forgotten, organised mum method to help with the routine of housework and yoga.
I am however working more than ever.

BlueJava · 03/11/2020 19:48

Lockdown coincided with both DS leaving home to go to Uni - so I did plan in advance. But the fact that I still work (now from home) is good, I am also learning Russian with a group online course one a week, I read a lot, gave Marie Kondo-ed the house and really tidied up/cleaned, done all the "life admin" jobs, done the jobs like having plumber in, carpenter to fix stuff etc.

MLMbotsgoaway · 03/11/2020 20:18

Following as am really feeling it this week. I’m not a hobby person either.

AlrightTreacle · 03/11/2020 20:38

I've found keeping a consistent-ish routine helpful. I am still going to work 3 or 4 days a week, but on my days off I get up around the same time, have breakfast, shower, get dressed into "normal clothes", put a bit of make up on, and go for at least a 30 minute walk, usually with an audio book or a podcast, but sometimes just in silence. If I don't stick to that, then there have been days when I'm still in my pyjamas at 3pm wondering where the day has gone Blush.

funnylittlefloozie · 03/11/2020 20:43

OP, if you're just going to rubbish everyone's suggestions, why bother asking? Just because you've never been into anything before, doesnt mean you cant try things. Sounds like you are bored and aimless - you could volunteer for one of those local helper groups, or learn a language or an instrument, or try painting or rug making.

AlrightTreacle · 03/11/2020 20:48

@funnylittlefloozie

To be fair to the OP, "read up on the progress on vaccines" isn't really helpful advice.

Bloody hell I’m exhausted just reading this! But you are right - for those of us who find ourselves with time on our hands, there is lots available to us. I’m going to take your post as inspiration and bloody do something instead of moaning!! Thank you.

This speaks to me. I might not end 2020 fluent in another language or having painted any masterpieces, but at least I'll (hopefully) make it to 2021 with my sanity intact.

AIBU to ask for strategies to maintain sanity?

Since my last post I've ordered a beginner's embroidery kit. I've never been a hobby person so this will be new.

LadyCatStark · 04/11/2020 08:09

Running is helping me but it’s becoming more difficult now that the weather is getting worse 😢.

DespairingHomeowner · 04/11/2020 18:57

A good routine & exercise got me through the last one, plus decluttering/home organising/DIY projects (it’s great to see achievement)

This time round we are allowed to meet 1 friend for a walk, & honestly I think that’s going to be my biggest sanity saver
