Ryanair and refunds

nosswith · 02/11/2020 11:21

Given their latest stance- www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54776678 , would it be simplest for the UK government to ban them from landing and taking off at all UK airports?

Fortunately I have not flown with them this century, but it would send a message about companies who dodge decent or even adequate customer service.

Ban during the period of restrictions.

I had a recent flight to Copenhagen cancelled and swiftly refunded. Was very impressed with the ease of speed of the process. Refund was within days and hassle free.

It's not just Ryanair. My flight in May to the US did go, obviously not with us on board, so we were not entitled to a refund even though the border was closed and so legally we couldn't fly. I have a voucher but may not be able to use it as I don't want to fly whilst covid is still around.

Lurkingforawhile · 02/11/2020 12:03

It was with BA.

Hoppinggreen · 02/11/2020 12:04

I’m waiting for a refund for June flights. They keep trying to give me vouchers but I want the money

Lurkingforawhile · 02/11/2020 12:14

@Hoppinggreen did you hear the interview on 5live this morning?

notimagain · 02/11/2020 12:38

the border was closed and so legally we couldn't fly.

The US situation is a PITA..strictly the border is not "closed" but as a non US citizen it's almost, but not completely impossible to enter...for example a certain Mr Farage got in and out of the US recently..

I do however agree that morally if you legally couldn't enter you should be entitled to a refund..

Charlottejade89 · 02/11/2020 13:01

I'm still waiting for a refund on flights that were cancelled in May from Ryanair. They updated saying our money would be refunded within 3 weeks...that was about 8 or 9 weeks ago now and still waiting

Hoppinggreen · 02/11/2020 13:04

No I didn’t lurking, what did it say?

Lurkingforawhile · 02/11/2020 13:20

He was incredibly rude and bullying @Hoppinggreen. Basically said those who had texted in saying they were still waiting for refund were lying, and accused the bbc of making it all up Hmm

Hoppinggreen · 02/11/2020 14:10

In the article above he says everyone has had refunds- lying twunt

sirfredfredgeorge · 02/11/2020 14:29

If it's your choice not to fly, or your government is preventing you from flying, it's not the businesses job to compensate you, get the government to compensate you.

myhobbyisouting · 02/11/2020 14:31

That's not how it works @sirfredfredgeorge

sirfredfredgeorge · 02/11/2020 14:40

Yes it is - if the airline cancels the flight, they have to refund, the airline is not cancelling any flights for the coming lockdown, so will not be required to refund any money.

Of course you might be talking about previous situations, but I'm talking about the article the OP posted.

RaspAsYouChokeOnTheToupee · 02/11/2020 14:50

I’m surprised people are still surprised that RyanAir is a bunch of money grabbing cunts. If a RyanAir plane went down, you’d have to swipe your credit card before being able to pull out a life jacket.

However, the borders aren’t closed as such. Non-essential travel should not be taken but essential travel can still be undertaken so flights are still needed. It’s not as simple as banning them from landing at U.K. airports due to shit customer service (on that note, the government really gives a shit about customer service).

myhobbyisouting · 02/11/2020 14:50

Yes, I was talking about previous flights, sorry. I was lucky to get a refund on USA travel

Lurkingforawhile · 02/11/2020 15:00

A bit of flexibility and good customer service is what's required. Although I was disappointed not to get refund from BA they did extend the voucher for another year. Also I had decent travel insurance taken out before Covid and it still didn't cover it.

IDontMindMarmite · 02/11/2020 15:02

The article says that customers will be able to reschedule their flights free of charge which seems alright under the circumstances.

nosswith · 01/12/2020 16:46

I understand there are still issues.

ClarenceBoddicker · 01/12/2020 17:37

You have to wait forever for a refund from Ryanair if you just request it and then wait. I had the same thing with a June flight. If you go on the chatbot on their website they refund almost immediately though

AnyFucker · 01/12/2020 17:41

You can only tescedule your Ryansir flight if you booked it under a strict time scale..

I have just had to move mine and it cost me £220

Hayeahnobut · 01/12/2020 17:43

People that booked before the pandemic were allowed to rebook for any other date for no additional charge. That was more than many other airlines did.

I've booked my flights with them for next year. For people reliant on regional airports, they're brilliant.

Fastforwardtospring · 01/12/2020 17:44

I just had my Ryanair flights refunded this week booked via On The Beach which were cancelled in June.

Dontpasstovardy · 01/12/2020 17:51

I've had RA refunds for flights in May, June and September.
