To think the conspiracy theory that we’re currently in the middle of World War 3 may be true?

Who are the Western World going to have to go to with their begging bowls when our economies have completely broken down due to CV?

What country do we most rely on for energy?

What country do we rely on for electrical equipment and machinery?

We’d be fucked if these Allies put their prices up?

AIBU to think a war is taking place right now without a bomb needing to be fired (just a virus) and we’ve already lost?

@duffeldaisy

I think when things go really bad, we like to have a clear 'enemy' to blame stuff on. So if crops failed hundreds or thousands of years ago, it was because the gods were displeased, or a witch had cursed your field, etc. So similarly, when it's just a virus and a collection of all sorts of other things (a decade of austerity, upcoming Brexit, a government elected on one issue rather than on their intelligence or ability to actually govern, and that government's xenophobia in not wanting to learn quickly from other countries that have done well because of their previous experiences with other viruses/fully funded healthcare systems) that have made our reaction to this virus too late and too deadly.

But all of that is too abstract and messed up, so it's much easier for us to blame some kind of incredibly clever international conspiracy, rather than a bunch of opportunistic people doing a terrible job of managing an emergency.

Couldn’t have put it better myself.

I’ve said for a long time that we used to blame “the gods” for things we didn’t understand (Disease, natural disasters, solar eclipses, etc) But now that we are more educated (I use the term loosely in respect to some folk 😜) we have explanations for those things, but when something we can’t (or don’t want to) understand happens we look to place blame somewhere and, lo, conspiracy theories are born.

@CookieMumsters

No, I dont believe it but I bloody love it anyway. Where can I read more of this madness?
This! It it totally mental but so gloriously insane that I want to fall down an internet rabbit hole and find out every. Last. Detail about it! Obviously still won't believe it, but it will certainly be amusing!

If I had the time and funding I would definitely be researching the interesting rise in belief in conspiracy theories. It's fascinating. Also the rise of the 'sovereign citizen' stuff; loads of eejits on Facebook and twitter today claiming Magna Carta excuses them from lockdown restrictions... so interesting.

I'm, assuming you think we get our energy from Russia and our heavy goods from China. Even if this were true, these countries are not allies which invalidates your next point. They're more likely to go to war with each other than team up to take over the rest of the world.

@chickenyhead

Urgh

Get off of social media and read a book

But if someone suggested OP read Klaus Schwab, you’d object to that too.
