AIBU to think this furlough loophole is fucking people over?

Please someone tell me I am reading this wrong. Please!

After an absolute fucker of a year financially, this could be the final straw. DH broke his leg earlier this year and his job ended. Since then he has worked wherever, whenever and for whomever he can (agency work, care/cleaning/warehouse - absolutely anything!) Pre May this was just about OK, in May the agency he was working for furloughed him for three weeks then let them all go. Since May he has worked anywhere and everywhere he can but obviously it is much harder to get work...

He has been working via an agency since beginning September. It appears from the government advice (screenshot attached) he will not be eligible for furlough, as he has not been there since June.

Please tell me I am reading this wrongly. So many people must be in this boat, who have lost or changed jobs, what the fuck happens to us?!

(Honestly we have done absolutely everything we can to raise/earn money so I know people mean well but I don't need any suggestions eg eBay). I am applying for absolutely anything I could physically do, which isn't much as I am disabled (I do get PIP) but unsurprisingly no one wants me.

Retail, care, cleaning, warehouse, labouring etc is overrun with applicants here and it's a fucking nightmare. Agencies and huge household names treat people so badly - don't pay you, pay you late, promise you a contract but then get you in for one day (obviously to cover sickness) and then never ring you again, ask you to turn up to a job then send you home....etc) DH has worked so hard and we have done the absolute best we can and been wired to the moon with stress and this is the final fucking straw.

Please someone tell me I am reading it wrongly? What do they expect people, who have tried their best and worked hard, to do (well I know the answer, they don't give a fuck do they.)

And I know this is AIBU but please can people not be dicks - not just because I'm on the edge but also because I really don't want to snap back and get myself banned!

Yes, it is shit. They are pushing people into universal credit when they know is insufficient for most people. Those people will be getting into debt and turning to food banks.

We have the worst possible government managing this crisis.

movingonup20 · 02/11/2020 09:39

It's 30 October this time

walksen · 02/11/2020 09:40

I think you need to check the regulations from Nov 5. I read that you do not need to have been on furlough previously to be put on it this time. Insisting on June this time would be like I insisting you were employed in November last time. Surely that can't be right?

Ilikewinter · 02/11/2020 09:40

EmployeesTo be eligible to be claimed for under this extension, employees must be on an employer’s PAYE payroll by 23:59 30th October 2020. This means a Real Time Information (RTI) submission notifying payment for that employee to HMRC must have been made on or before 30th October 2020.
*As under the currentCJRSrules:Employees can be on any type of contract. Employers will be able to agree any working arrangements with employees.

Ive just googled furlough november 2020 and this came up on the government website, so i would think your husband would qualify and maybe the info youve posted has been updated??

AHousefulOfScreenagers · 02/11/2020 09:40

I really hope I am reading it wrongly. If not perhaps the amount of people this will affect will make enough noise that the government will do their usual strategy of a U turn.

SNAFU.

I think they are the old rules. New rules were being issued over the weekend and I am sure we will here more over the next few days. Your DH should be eligible this time

AHousefulOfScreenagers · 02/11/2020 09:41

Do you have a link? The guidance I am on says it was updated yesterday...

Calm down my lovely. Your screenshot is the previous set of rules. Current info is here www.gov.uk/government/news/furlough-scheme-extended-and-further-economic-support-announced Your DH will be eligible for furlough as he was employed before 31/10/20. I hope things pick up for you both Flowers

WhatTheFuckHappenedHere · 02/11/2020 09:44

I think you might be reading the September/October guidance, which was that to be eligible you needed to have already been on it. The new guidance is that you must have been on your employers payroll since the 30th of October.

The link is below; it’s really long, so scroll down to eligibility. The screen shot details it.
I’ve just gone through it with a fine toothed comb too, because we would also be fucked without DH’s furlough! Take care OP Flowers

Please let you all be right! I have found that guidance thank you all so much. But the date on it is 31st Oct and the date on the original info I read is 1st Nov?

It’s the 30th. Read the screenshot above.

AHousefulOfScreenagers · 02/11/2020 09:48

God this is confusing. This is the guidance from the 31st Oct saying you can be employed in Oct (hurrah!)

I really hope I am wrong and their info is just SNAFU, and that I haven't worried anyone else if so!

They are twats and I'm going out to get five minutes fresh air as I have sold a coat on eBay (yay) and will take it to the parcel shop (wearing the inferior coat I am keeping Grin)

PS obviously this is not a begging thread, it's a I'm Fucked Off thread.

I would keep an eye on it, so many people have been fucked over. Have a look at ExcludedUK, they might be able to help you

marriednotdead · 02/11/2020 10:04

Fingers crossed that the furlough comes through for you this time. Many people really slog to make the best they can of things and you and your DH are shining examples of that. Hate what this situation is doing to people.

Wishing you a lucky break so you can get through this winter without selling any more stuff that is actually needed- I felt so angry for you reading that you’ve had to get rid of your good coat, even though it’s obviously raised much needed cash.

OP I think the new rules are end october .I hope and your family ok I know its shit for people trying there best and feeling they getting nowhere

Willowkins · 02/11/2020 10:16

I am so sorry for the pain and stress you are going through. I hope you get what you need soon.

sashagabadon · 02/11/2020 10:21

I agree with others. You have to be on payroll by end of day 30th October. This does not mean the company has to offer furlough though

Shaniac · 02/11/2020 10:22

Sorry for your situation op but thanks for bringing it up as i hadnt seen the new guidelines either only the old ones and i got my new 0 hour job in September and was told i might not be eligible for furlough either. Worrying times.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 02/11/2020 10:27

It looks as if the update on 1/11 was just to add the bit that says the scheme has been extended to December. It hasn't occurred to them that not updating the actual information might be confusing Hmm

Scotmummy1216 · 02/11/2020 10:29

My partner lost his job after 14 years with same company. Not even had an interview for anywhere yet. So hard out there just now.
