Bore off with your crappy fireworks

You’re waking my baby and scaring my rescue cat - and your displays look rubbish anyway. Fireworks in people’s back gardens should be BANNED!

And who on earth is going to police that 'suitable curfew' Dawn? Seeing as the Police can barely cope with really serious issues I can't see them sending a couple of plods round at 1am to remonstrate with juvenile idiots setting off fireworks. If the bloody things weren't available for the public to buy it wouldn't be an issue

You could say that about any law with a low level of criminality if broken. For the most part people will be compliant without any need for actual enforcement.

Dawnlassie · 02/11/2020 19:01

a human is much better able to manage a fear of dogs than all animals/wildlife are able to manage their fear of absurdly loud fireworks

By what mechanism exactly? Not going outside? Dogs are all over the place 24/7. Fireworks only take place several nights a year.

mummyoneboy19 · 02/11/2020 19:21

@ShinyGreenElephant I’m so sorry for your loss, and I hope that you manage some sleep soon. Have you anyone who can help and take the night shift to let you catch up and rest?

june2007 · 02/11/2020 19:24

I think I will have some, my cat and dog seem to manage ok. There were some around the other night and they were fine and the semi feral cat locally seemed fine too. No organised dilays this year so think one has to give a bit.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 02/11/2020 19:34

Diwali is the following weekend after bonfire night this year (Sat 14th) so expect more fireworks then.

I'm not a big fan these days. They terrify my cat and so many households have pets around here.

I wish they'd come up with a low-noise solution!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 02/11/2020 19:38

I wonder if there'll be more home displays this year Sad
Presumably the organised ones are cancelled.

The annoying thing is they don't just occur on the 5th. I'm predicting garden displays from Thursday onwards aside from the random bangs of idiots setting individual ones off (in daylight Hmm)

Doodiesbear · 02/11/2020 20:20

No organised dilays this year so think one has to give a bit.

Why does one have to give a bit though? Bonfire night is 5th November, but people will have their home displays when it suits them on the weekends either side and not bother about the effect they're having on others, so why should those who don't like them for varying reasons give a bit when those in favour aren't willing to do the same?
And that's before you've even got to the fact they end up in the hands of idiots, people drinking and those too young and are fired at people, cars, buses, animals and houses either accidentally or entirely on purpose.
I worked in a dementia unit a few years ago. This week/10 days was an absolute nightmare for those people. If someone were doing something over and over again, next to a home full of vulnerable adults that was causing them distress then I'm sure society would be up in arms about it, but if it's fireworks? 🤷 Oh well, never mind. It's all in the name of fun.
Let's see some of you work 4/5 nights over this time of year on a unit like that and watch people shake, cry, hide and be punched, kicked and bitten as you try to console and stop them hurting themselves and each other because the patients are driven to terror by this 'fun' and see how you feel.

Glad YOUR pets are ok but many are not. And how the hell can you speak on behalf of your ‘local semi feral cat’(??). Your stupid little garden display will probably disturb babies, young children, people’s pets and your local wildlife aswell as annoy your neighbours, but you’re obviously too selfish to care about others.
TheDaydreamBelievers · 02/11/2020 21:30

I love fireworks but I completely agree. Many accidents every year and cause distress to animals (and sometimes people)

ShinyGreenElephant · 02/11/2020 22:54

@mummyoneboy19 thank you, tonight all is quiet and the babys been asleep since 6.30, must be a miracle!
