AIBU to book a test without typical symptoms?

Fully prepared to be slated..

Last week I spent time with family (outdoors). 2 days later they showed symptoms of Covid. Test came back positive. I am not expected to self isolate as we were outdoors.

Family member started with a stinking cold and had typical symptoms / positive test 4 days later.

I now have a stinking cold including headache/ body ache etc that come with it. None of the main symptoms that mean you can legitimately get a test.

The reason I’m tempted is because I work in a special school and am due back tomorrow. Not ill enough to be off (in my opinion) but what if by Wednesday it end up being Covid and I’ve potentially spread it in school?!

AIBU- tests are for those showing symptoms of cough/ temp/ loss of smell. Don’t hog the test you selfish turd.

AINBU- have a test so you know your aren’t potentially infecting vulnerable children.

Get tested. Don’t take it in to a SEN school if you can help it.

Yanbu, you should get a test,

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 01/11/2020 14:38

Yanbu...thats how my friends started and then came the typical symptoms. I would.

silentpool · 01/11/2020 14:50

Get the test.

Get a test. Body aches aren’t usual with cold, they are with covid and you know you’ve been close to someone who has tested positive recently so it’s a no brainer.

Definitely get a test; I didn't have typical symptoms just body aches and headache and tested positive

MushMonster · 01/11/2020 14:54

You were "in contact" with a confirmed case, so not unreasonable at all, even if you do not fit the 3 symptoms, as for some people it just does not present with fever, coughs and loss/ changes of taste/smell. Unlucky that you may have got it outdoors.Flowers

You've spent time with people who have it, and now are experiencing similar symptoms to their initial ones. You'd be unreasonable to go to school when you may have caught it, and a test is warranted, imo.

CoffeeandCroissant · 01/11/2020 14:56

There is now plenty of testing capacity (much higher than the number of tests taken) so no reason not to get a test given the circumstances.

Dugsbollox · 01/11/2020 14:56

(And I hope you feel better soon!)

AGoatAteIt · 01/11/2020 14:57

Definitely get tested. Hopefully it is just a nasty cold but not worth risking passing Covid on to lots of already vulnerable children.
