wasn't really sure where to post this actually. I was thinking today - if you follow someone on instagram who also has a blog, how many of you will go to the blog site to read what they are saying? Are you happy to just keep up with them by stories etc.

Myself, I would not be bothered to click onto the blog itself, but is this the way most people think?

So, are blogs dead? (by the way, I should clarify that this is mainly directed at lifestyle blogs. I am sure money, car etc blogs are still relevant)

I'd just read their insta posts. Sometimes even the videos on insta are too long for me. I just want something quick.

FloraButterCookie · 01/11/2020 13:17

yeah i just look on insta

pippiphooray1 · 01/11/2020 13:40

interesting point about the videos

With videos - even if I'm interested in the content, I just don't want to hear someone drone on for ages. I often have stories on mute etc as I'm just scrolling when I have 5 mins. I think people are so busy now they just want quick accessible info that they can get in a few mins.

pippiphooray1 · 03/11/2020 10:32

thanks for that, @snipples. I think the average attention span for videos is actually 2secs. and you're right about the droning on. maybe that why I find TikTok so painful..

I don't follow people, but often end up on food blogs when looking for recipes. Quite frankly, I don't care if their great auntie Mary liked it or their two year old helped make it. Just cut to the chase and give the recipe.

I find blogs boring and self absorbed.

pippiphooray1 · 03/11/2020 11:32

I completely agree - that is my pet peeve. but, of course, I think they get paid by how long people stay on their page? or the m ore words, the more effective the seo. it's almost as painful as the adverts playing in the middle of videos

Depends who it is. Most content sharers will have all of the platforms but some people are better writers and I'll read their blogs or newsletters. Others will make good videos and I will watch their vlogs or YouTube videos and others who are less vocal but share wonderful art or photography on Instagram.

Ginfordinner · 03/11/2020 11:36

I just scroll down to the bottom. I am an advertiser's nightmare Grin

Mintjulia · 03/11/2020 11:41

Yes, agree with the comment on food. I don't care where the recipe came from or what brand the ingredients are. I have a limited time to cook so ingredients, instructions and no waffle please. Put the effort into an enticing image that I can absorb in a split second.

I don't build loyalty for a specific source, but do look at the second or even third page of search results. Sometimes it delivers much better food.

whatswithtodaytoday · 03/11/2020 11:52

I do sometimes click through to the blog if there's a link on Stories. I still like a blog post. But I think people want more instant content now, and there's probably more money to be made from Insta mentions and slide up affiliate links than advertising embedded on a blog page.

prismWitch · 03/11/2020 12:00

I prefer blogs to videos and instagram posts. I am quick reader and I like a long article. I do not go to insta to read a big post about anything, I want pretty pictures and funny stuff. From blogs I expect a nice in depth cover of a subject.

On intagram I would follow normally people that are into interior decoration and are funny. I do however follow few bloggers on insta but they have a separet content for both platform. On instagram they will show a cute mug they just got and on blog they will give me in-depth analysis of a movie that came out recently.

Screw videos. Text is the way forward for actual information. /oldschool

pippiphooray1 · 03/11/2020 12:24

interestingly, I was watching a media expert the other day who said email is the way forward!

it's an interesting dichotomy here of responses. I'm pleased to know that some do take the time out to read blogs, though.

I agree.

Quite often when searching for information it is only available as a video. I don't want to watch a video. I want to read it. If I am out and about a video ramps through my data, and at home I just prefer to read rather than watch.

Mistymonday · 03/11/2020 13:33

Prefer blogs, like youtube vids, HATE instagram and twitter. They can get in the f*cking sea. I like reading words on a page. I am 38 so maybe too old for all this crap ‘Idiocracy’ stuff.

Mistymonday · 03/11/2020 13:33

Oh and TikTok can do one as well!

CaptainVanesHair · 03/11/2020 13:37

Not dead at all, but cater to different needs/market. In fact blogs have had a burger resurge in popularity over the last two years and content is definitely the most popular service my agency offers.

Emmapeeler2 · 03/11/2020 13:39

I still like blogs and have an occasional one followed by nobody. I don't do instagram since FB took over and starting bombarding me with targeted advertising. It ruined it for me. I imagine a lot of 'normal' bloggers just like writing. If people find them boring and don't read, they probably won't care that much. Smile

pippiphooray1 · 03/11/2020 14:41

Thank you for the different perspectives here
