Will these jobs have to stop?

A family member is getting huge home improvements done. They started in late August. All done through the same company which is questionable. they worked all day everyday whilst doing the garden (2 weeks) But now they are only going about once a week. She's awaiting news from a solicitor about the extension. But the men were after starting inside last week due to the garage hold up. She's been stressed all week as she has so much junk and can't store it anywhere.

will all her work have to stop now? It is it classed as construction? She wanted it finished by now.

What she's having done.
New drive and patio.
New kitchen.
New ceilings.
Garage extension.
New floors.

Thanks!

Waiting for published rules -- but I have impression that house improvement & construction work will be allowed to continue.

RedMarauder · 01/11/2020 06:53

It will be allowed to continue as it counts as construction work.

yawnsvillex · 01/11/2020 06:56

Yes it can go ahead as it's considered going to work.

Randomness12 · 01/11/2020 07:00

I believe it can continue if the home is empty while they are working inside... otherwise you are mixing households? Outside or if it is empty is fine?

Daydreamer89 · 01/11/2020 07:11

The house won't be empty. There's different people going every week too. But that's good that it can continue.

The rules say if you can't work from home you can go to work & construction was used as an example so I would assume yes.

I hope so because we're getting a new radiator fitted next week & our home office is really cold at the mo!

PhilCornwall1 · 01/11/2020 07:24

We are having a new bathroom put in and whilst they are starting tomorrow, it will continue into the following week.

As far as I'm concerned, it's going ahead and I've no problem with them being in the house. I'm fed up with a million boxes of tiles, radiator, shower and screen, etc. taking over the dining room.

If that has to stop, I'm off to Downing Street to piss on Johnson's doorstep.

My partner is a joiner and is under the impression he can still work.

It's not mixing households if it's for work purposes.

I'm wondering this as well...due to have damp course work starting 5th November followed by the arrival of a new kitchen on the 25th! Its taken what seems like forever to get to this point & I'd be gutted if it had to be rescheduled. Ringing the separate contractors tomorrow & hoping for the best but if it needs rescheduling then I'm determined not to get upset about something I can't change

Newmumatlast · 01/11/2020 22:38

cannot possibly answer this until we know the law. Not the rules or guidance btw. The law. I imagine in true governmental style we will have this finalised right before Thursday

ImAllOut · 01/11/2020 22:42

The Welsh guidance may be similar to yours when it comes out but it's here for an idea under the 'Work' section:
gov.wales/coronavirus-firebreak-frequently-asked-questions
For us it was basically yes it can continue but only if it really can't wait for a couple of weeks.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 01/11/2020 23:01

What’s ‘questionable’ about it all being done through one company?

caringcarer · 02/11/2020 00:43

As long as they agree to wear masks when in house with them there is no problem.
