To ask if you've learnt 2 languages at once?

And what languages were they, and how hard was it?
I started learning Korean but I want something more so I'm taking up Japanese too as of tonight Smile Just want to know roughly what to expect!

Good for you! Difficult languages too, I believe. I can't help with what to expect, sorry.

I learned French, German and Spanish all at once but that was at school so obviously I had help.

Thank you! Japanese alphabet is so hard Sad Whereas Korean was very easy and I had it down within an hour.

When I was learning language at school, we were only taught one at a time, not that I listened anyway.. BlushGrin So this is my first time doing more than one at one time

I learned French, Spanish and Italian at school, studied French and Spanish at university and I'm now revising my Spanish and learning Scottish Gaelic. These 2 languages are very different so I'm finding that easier to study alongside each other.

I once had a trilingual job interview where I completely forgot all French language which made me look like a right wally or a liar but I just couldn't remember anything!

So it can be complicated OP but very interesting and rewarding. Good luck Smile

I did (unusual ones so not saying as to outing). They were similar. If the languages are different it's easier. Different alphabets makes it easier still in terms of not confusing them.

Where it gets complicated is when they share words..but have different meanings for them and/or share verbs that are the same in the infinitive but alter slightly as you conjugate them or move through the tenses. Then I'd say it's an added obstacle, which isn't insurmountable, but not always welcome!

I've found the hardest thing about learning languages is an aging brain!!

It depends what level you’ve reached with Korean and why you ‘want something more’. Why not work harder on the Korean and progress faster?
I have learnt three languages at once, but they were sufficiently different. There is overlap between Korean and Japanese, which will cause you problems, and the Japanese writing system will require all of your attention for a while.
