To have been so bothered by this all day!

A pair of grandparents (I think?) driving on the motorway with two little boys. The youngest, must’ve been about 4 or 5, was on the front passenger’s lap, no seatbelt and nearly naked. The kid was jumping up and down, sticking his feet on the windscreen, had nothing on except for a pair of undies. It was so strange! They took the exit and I happened to be behind them. Stuck in traffic so I got a really good look at them. The boy at the back, about 7, didn’t have a seatbelt on either. Window was wide open and he was half hanging out of it. My sister who was in the back of my car took a picture of them to report them (we haven’t yet, not sure if we should?) If you have parents/friends/family who drive a blue 2007 Nissan Qashqai and who looked after your boys today in SW London. I’d have a word. This was bloody dangerous and unacceptable. I tried to get their attention but they took no notice of me. A close friend’s brother died in very similar circumstances after being hit by another car from behind when he was 6, this has bothered me so much!

Yes you should report. There was a thread on here recently where the mother was hounded by her in laws who thought such behaviour was acceptable and vilified when she called them out on it. If this was her family she’s be begging and praying that someone else saw and reported them.

user1473878824 · 31/10/2020 23:30

Report for all the actual issues but what they’re wearing is so none of your business.

lovemelongtime · 31/10/2020 23:31

Sorry mind your own business

LouiseTrees · 31/10/2020 23:31

Also I hope you got their reg. unfortunately the picture above isn’t super clear so I’d also explain in detail and maybe circle areas as well as sending an unedited photo.

KiwiKit · 31/10/2020 23:34

@LouiseTrees I did get their reg. I know this pic isn’t very clear, I had to edit out anything too identifying. Do you have a link to the other thread?

@user1473878824 I just said it was odd. A bit strange that you don’t think it’s odd to have a half naked child jumping around a moving vehicle? Especially when the windows are open and it’s cold and raining outside.

OP posts:
KiwiKit · 31/10/2020 23:38

@lovemelongtime and if a car hit them and the child went head first through the windscreen?

OP posts:
LouiseTrees · 31/10/2020 23:38

It was some time ago. Hopefully someone else does as I’ve probably cleared it out.. but unless that car is your MIL then you are doing the right thing by reporting . I will look for the link though.

KiwiKit · 31/10/2020 23:47

@LouiseTrees definitely not my MIL. Thank God. Thank you!

The nakedness might indicate there were other issues, for example some children with autism find wearing clothes uncomfortable. There may have been a somewhat reasonable explanation for the child being held on the lap if, for example, he was a child with autism or other SEN who removed his seatbelt and was having a meltdown and was being held by the adult until they could stop the car safely. That said it sounds like there was another child also without a seatbelt on in the back and that they didn’t stop as soon as they left the motorway so even if there were reasons for the children’s behaviour it doesn’t sound like it was responded to safely. YWNBU to report.

stackemhigh · 01/11/2020 00:10

Fine to report but not sure why this needs a thread? Did you really need to be told this is wrong?

And the pic?! Why post a pic?! It’s not a parking thread.

CastleOfDoom · 01/11/2020 00:13

@lovemelongtime

Sorry mind your own business
And if those children are killed by flying through the windscreen? It should be everyone's business.

Not so worried about what they were wearing but report for the seatbelt thing - it may save their lives.

thosetalesofunexpected · 01/11/2020 00:17

lovemelong time, I find your attitude very weird what on earth is your problem ? What is wrong with you then??? Seriously !!!
Ignoring Child Neglect in a family Car Shame on you !!!
Those young children if the car driver needed to stop in emergency or had to some kind of sudden manevore Those young children could very easily be thrown in to car windscreen hitting this like a raggy dolls and be killed !!!
And your tell Op poster to mind her own Buisiness !!!

Your Stupid Attitude and ignorgrance endangers lives !
There is a valid bloody good reason someone invented Seat Belts
Doh Stupid 😬😡

Perhaps their child has sensory issues. Perhaps they’d just been sick all over themselves. The safety issue is one thing, you can’t complain about a child in pants randomly.

DryRoastPeanut · 01/11/2020 00:21

Sorry I hit the wrong button. Yanbu, but I hit the wrong button and I wish mn would allow it to be edited.
I’d hate to find out that my children or grandchildren were being moved around like this!

QueenPaws · 01/11/2020 00:23

My mum has a massive thing about seatbelts (she nursed some children after skin injuries thrown through a windscreen)
If she sees a child without one she does a good line in a terrifying face and mouths "seatbelt" and mimes it Blush embarrassing when I was a kid but it's never failed Grin

KiwiKit · 01/11/2020 00:23

@stackemhigh because hopefully the parents are on here, see this and make sure it never happens again. That’s why.

Some really disturbing comments on here like its none of your business etc. This could signal real safeguarding issues, report it!!!!

MoreCookiesPlease · 01/11/2020 00:26

This is shocking OP. Of course YANBU. If this was how my kids were being driven around I'd be devastated. So dangerous.

KenzoBaby · 01/11/2020 00:29

Children not being dressed properly for the weather IS a red flag for social services. There might be a good reason for it (sensory issues / vomiting incident as pp suggested) but that's not for OP to decide. She gives the full picture to the authorities and they make the decision.

Well done, OP, good to see a bit of social responsibility. All it takes for bad things to happen is for good people to do nothing.

thosetalesofunexpected · 01/11/2020 00:34

Hi Op Really glad there are people like you around, restores my faith in humanity thank you, you should definitely report them this family in the car, I hope you have got the car registeration name plate? Inform DVLA and the Police and also when you inform the police, make sure you tell the police to contact social services dept for child neglect and this family endangered their young children lives they could easily be killed in a car accident,
There is a well known African old saying it takes a village to raise a child etc...
Well done Op,! I would do the same thing as you want to do, and I know many other's who happen to care about and share your concerns about this particular situation,

Sorry to hear about the tragic accident that your close friend suffered from losing her brother God this life can be so cruel at times isnt it...😢..Innocent losing his life like that why is life like that..and to think there are cruel people out there in this world, who don't seem to suffer such as wife beaters, pedo's,rapists etc..

Casschops · 01/11/2020 01:19

I think I would have rang 999 and reported it straight away?
