Calling all teaching and school staff!

Sh05 · 30/10/2020 19:49

Morrisons is offering 10 percent off on groceries to all school staff from the 2nd of november. All you need is your valid school photo ID.
There are some terms and conditions but I'm glad to see there are people out there who want to show their appreciation.
Just thought to put this out for those who haven't heard.

The nursery my dd goes to is part of a primary and they are called x primary and nursery. So all the teachers there have that on their id. So they will all qualify.

And after a week of dd I hope they use it for booze Grin

Wonderful. Give an extra discount to the people who have had a guaranteed steady 100% income through the whole Covid clusterfuck from Day 1. Meanwhile there are 1000s of people who are genuinely struggling to feed themselves and their children due to reduced income who are offered no discount at all. Well Done Morrisons, you've covered yourself in glory there...I also am lucky enough to have had a steady 100% income throughout, yet I can appreciate how ludicrous this 'gesture' is. FFS Hmm

OverTheRainbow88 · 30/10/2020 21:10

Covid has made many people bitter

LittleRa · 30/10/2020 21:13

@Subordinateclause

LittleRa Probably in secondaries, but there are days I could be the only teacher in school. It's tiny. Everyone definitely knows who I am!
@Subordinateclause I’m in primary

The same could be said of NHS, police etc etc etc. You're very bitter for someone who isn't even in the position they're complaining about.
SayakaMurata · 30/10/2020 21:30

I'm a teacher and I really appreciate this gesture. We continued to work throughout lockdown, including during the Easter and half term holidays. We had to switch to online /remote learning with 2 days notice and with no training. We had to suddenly change all our procedures and policies, again with only 2 days notice. We've been fully open since September with no PPE and no social distancing (impossible in most classrooms). I can't think of any other job where people have absolutely no protection like this. Since September we've lost our breaks and half our lunchtime due to extra duties.

It's very sad, although not surprising, that some people are so bitter about us being thanked by one company.

Some people just really hate us don't they.

Bitbusyattheminute · 30/10/2020 21:37

Can't use it for booze apparently Shock

If anyone else wants 10 per cent off their shopping for a couple of months, and thinks we don't deserve it, please consider retraining and joining us.

But don't expect October half term off. You might get a day, but not the whole week.

BackforGood · 30/10/2020 21:37

I'm a teacher, who won't qualify for this, but I can still be appreciative of the gesture. I think it is particularly thoughtful that it includes all school staff, and isn't just the teachers.
There are so many people on this thread who must go through life in a permanent state of crossness. Can't be good for you.

Awalkintime · 30/10/2020 21:41

Subordinateclause I do - tiny school here and no ID cards too.

fiddlerjo · 30/10/2020 21:43

I think it's an excellent idea but not one I'll be able to take advantage of as we don't have photo ID at our school.

Awalkintime · 30/10/2020 21:43

Allaboutthepizza Of all the flavours you could be as a pizza and you choose salty.

SliceOfFriedGold · 30/10/2020 21:45

Subordinateclause - we don't have photo ID either, and nor do many of the other small schools in our area. I've emailed Morrison's to ask about that. Photo IDs are not a safeguarding requirement, although they probably are necessary in schools that are more than half-form entry.

I'm glad they've thought of school staff - it's been a difficult time on many levels for all our staff members for all sorts of reasons. I know many other professions have it hard too, and I hope they get some recognition.

Sh05 · 30/10/2020 21:55

My sister works at a small school who don't have photo IDs but they were advised in their latest training that it was best to have one. I know they were working on issuing them to their small number of staff.
I understand not everyone will be happy but I also think as teachers as well as many others are still putting themselves at risk this is a nice move by Morrisons. I'm hoping they have plans to move on to another just as deserving group of people after school staff.

Well I and several of my colleagues have had our hours (and therefore our pay) cut recently. Several of our staff have actually been made redundant this term... Covid measures have been very expensive.....

I won’t be able to get 10% off though as we have name badges, not photo ID.

Raffaella13 · 30/10/2020 21:58

Thanks for sharing!

Unfortunately I don't qualify as I teach A Levels in a college! :(

Lovely news for others though!

CatsAndEyeliner · 30/10/2020 22:13

No photo ID here either.

jambeforeclottedcream · 30/10/2020 22:42

I'm just thankful state secondary/ primary support staff have been considered. As a whole we are normally overlooked and it makes a change

woodhill · 01/11/2020 14:26

Does apply to FE colleges as well. Worth checking their terms and conditions

LittleRa · 01/11/2020 15:25

Thanks @woodhill I think they must’ve changed this, as I defiantly saw T&Cs stating it didn’t include private nursery and FE college etc, but after seeing your post I checked again and I see the attached message on their Facebook page. Maybe the negative comments they received from the private early years sector and further education sector influenced them to change this, either way I’m sure a lot more people will be even happier about this now Smile

I still don't understand why school staff have been singled out for such vitriol. Lots of people in the public and private sector were "at home on full pay" and the schools didn't close of their own volition. I agree it was tough on the children but schools did as they were asked. I appreciate that some schools weren't great at setting work, but I'm sure there are shit nurses, carers etc too and we don't slate whole professions based on those examples.

I really don't get it.
