... for a female family member. Looking for as many suggestions as possible! Also any ideas how to make it memorable during restricted time?

Watching because I am really, really struggling for my friend.

IamaBluebird · 30/10/2020 15:06

There was a thread on here awhile back with some lovely ideas.
What about having a special afternoon tea delivered. I've seen quite a few online and they look gorgeous.

Our children bought us titles for our 60th. To be honest, there was nothing we needed and this was a fun gift that is a great conversation piece.

Your budget? Her interests/likes and dislikes?

Girlintheframe · 30/10/2020 19:11

The website Don't buy her flowers has some great box's that you can add whatever gifts you want to. Things include beauty, food, drink, magazines, vouchers etc.Beautifully packaged too

For my Mum's 60th recently I commissioned a small painting by one of her favourite local artists. She loved it!

CaveMum · 30/10/2020 19:38

Is there an interest that she has that you could tap into? There are loads of themed monthly subscription boxes like The Gin Club, or The Chocolate Tasting Club. What about a class in something she enjoys (for post-Covid) - I was gifted a Macaron making class at a local bakery a few years ago and it was a fantastic present!

For my aunt’s 80th, we all had to write a limerick about her. It obviously took quite a lot of effort, but she loved it and so did we!

Billericaydicky · 30/10/2020 22:08

Had sure an echo, I'm that sorry if age and love mine.
Or fit it?

wohmum · 30/10/2020 22:11

A tree or a fabulous piece of garden art ?
A water feature/ bird feeder / garden chair ?

1Morewineplease · 30/10/2020 22:15

Ordinarily I'd say , an experience of some kind.
However, a lovely photo or an artwork would be lovely.
My daughter commissioned an art student friend to sketch my garden. I'll treasure it always.

Fifthtimelucky · 30/10/2020 23:13

RHS membership? (Unless she is already a member of course)

As somebody who will be 60 in the not too distant future - I have all the 'things' I need. I don't want any more pictures, I have already collected all the pretty things I want, and quite honestly I don't want to have to keep something somebody else has chosen for me which might not be to my taste. A nice plant for my garden maybe? Flowers are always nice. Or a book - if you have been wise enough to find out what I enjoy reading - definitely NOT a coffee table book. May be a book token would be a better idea. All I really want is to celebrate with my family.... But that won't be happening.

FangsForTheMemory · 31/10/2020 06:08

I bought a friend a silk cami and French knickers.

Trainjourney · 31/10/2020 08:39

Perhaps a luxury quality yarn - like Italian cashmere, if she likes knitting

JaJaDingDong · 31/10/2020 09:26

I am also fast approaching 60.
I would like every one to donate to charity chosen by me. I have everything I want otherwise and still working in a well paid job so can buy what I need/like.
Then, when we can, I'd like a family meal out in a quirky, but not fancy, restaurant.

Soontobe60 · 31/10/2020 09:40

My family got me a tattoo!

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 31/10/2020 13:31

For her love of books, what about a 6 month reading subscription from Mr B's Emporium Of Reading Delights?
mrbsemporium.com/about/

She consults with a personal 'bibliotherapist' (!), who then sends a book each month based on her preferences.

Gratefulforever · 02/11/2020 20:36

I recently bought a dedicated a piece of music for my parents’ Golden Wedding Anniversary.
You choose a piece from the selection, choose your title and they send you a copy of the piece of music (framed if you like) and it’s put on streaming services like Spotify (with your chosen title). From the website www.musicaldedication.co.uk
They were really chuffed and it seems like quite a unique gift I think. They love listening to ‘their’ piece!

Sooverthemill · 02/11/2020 20:46

Does this family member like surprises? I hate them! It may be an idea to ask in case. For my 60th I had a necklace made incorporating the names of my children. Other gifts I have liked ( and been consulted on) include a professional design of a birder in the garden, an olive tree, an Monica vinander bracelet and a special edition of a much loved book. For my husbands 60th I did a lunch party for our kids and his best friends and had dinner cooked the previous night by a local chef. Obviously that's out at present. I get upset when the kids second hard earned money on stuff they think I might like but a) already have or b) have no use for. I loathe houseplants for example but one of my DC buys one every bloody birthday/ Mother's Day and the poor things die because I totally forget to water them. I also don't want framed photos of people on their holidays! I am a grouch

Sooverthemill · 02/11/2020 20:46

Border not birder

Francescaisstressed · 02/11/2020 20:48

I'm made my mum a scarp book of memories with a family tree with photos, along with a personalised birthday flower scarf and birthday gemstone jewelry from notonthehughstreet, also got a cheese and cracker Baird delivered, along with flowers.

Winniewonka · 02/11/2020 22:06

I had garden vouchers for my 60th which I really appreciated. If she had them from all her family and friends maybe she could buy a garden bench, somewhere lovely to sit and reflect. I also had a bit of a mind change around this age, asking myself do I really need to fill my house with more stuff? Over the years I would keep gifts for 'best' whether it's clothes or toiletries and I realised without sounding morbid if I don't use things now, when shall I?
