To home bake with dogs?

I mean not literally with the dogs Hmm, but bake cakes to sell from my kitchen when I have a dog (and cat) in the house?

I make lovely cakes and a friend of mine is currently making a very good living from it and frankly, I want a bit of her success too!
I’m in a diddly terrace so not massive kitchen but if I feed the animals in the hallway and pop their water bowl out there too they have no need to ever enter the kitchen.

Is it possible or will environmental health immediately refuse it on hygiene grounds?

Anyone know please? 🙏

Quite right, @Kissthepastrychef the regs just say "adequate facilities" and a good procedure if you don't have separate sinks.

I started with one sink... procedure was just to wash it between hand and equipment washing. Given it's a sink that's pretty easy to do!

What about healthy bakes for dogs and cats? There's a burgeoning market for pretty owners with disposable incomes

I looked into that. The legislation and restrictions are incredibly complex and you can't just up and do it on the back of your standard registration. I gave up in the end as the process was too faffy

Also OP bear in mind that if you are talking about cake you are in the low risk category so they are pretty relaxed on things like fridges etc. Also food storage - if you are baking to order and it goes straight out much of the info and EHO stuff doesn't affect you.
May I recommend La Belle Cake Community on Facebook, we are a really friendly group and lots of us have been in business for years and can give proper advice.

@KindergartenKop

My horrible cats always sit on the worktops even though I take them down and tell them off every time. I bet your cat does this when you're not looking!
Ha, my three cats are the same. I am constantly wiping down the sides to no avail. Wouldn’t be without them though. 🙂

OP, if you can keep the animals out of the kitchen then I can’t see a problem. Although that’s a big if, my cats won’t do anything I tell them! I remember going to the cat cafe in Edinburgh. They had ten (some very fluffy) cats and they still had a kitchen that they served drinks and cakes from. The cats apparently never went in the kitchen although I don’t know how they stopped them. Good luck whatever you decide.
