I know I’m posting so it can’t be that bad but it really is !
Pain killers are not touching it ,been sick and the pain is excruciating.
Any home remedies?
Have tried heat/cold, dark room and trying to sleep it off .
Feel like a drill would be handy about now to release some skull pressure !

Paracetamol and codeine plus naproxen, full sugar coke and toast. And then I lie down and literally relax all the muscles in my shoulders and neck. It’s bloody horrible and you have my full sympathy Flowers

Fluffybutter · 29/10/2020 19:35

Thanks so much ,all of you !
Dh went and got me some migraleve so I’ve taken that .
I also had some salty chips from the chippy and that is still in my stomach so an improvement on the ice lolly I had earlier!
I can’t take naproxen anymore as it gave me gastritis and now I get that if I take ibuprofen too many days in a row which sucks .
Will definitely try the cold compress on the neck and hot on my hands/ feet.
I think if it’s bad tomorrow I will try the pharmacy as like most I’m trying to avoid the doctors !
So many good ideas on here so thanks very much , much appreciated Smile

Feverfew leaves. It grows in my garden quite happily. Apparently it's quite bitter but a couple of leaves between slices of bread works really well (according to my father's friend who tried everything unsuccessfully until Dad dug some up from the garden & gave him a pot of it). Friend never had another day off work due to migraine.

Alternatively, you might be able to buy the extract in Holland & Barrett/ health food shop.

Sunsetdawn · 29/10/2020 19:42

I hope you feel better already Flowers I would like to suggest (for next time maybe) looking at the Wim Hof method. Deep breathing plus cold showers. I haven't had a migraine since I started doing it in July.
I had the beginnings of one once but genuinely managed to stave it off. You could just do the breathing if you can't face cold showers, but I find I feel amazing afterwards. You start very gradually so not as hard as it sounds.

I will definitely look into that ,thank you . I do feel a lot better than I did earlier thanks . I do seem to get migraines every month so I came off the pill which helped but now not so much . Have tried increasing vitamin B and magnesium and anything else I can google with not much luck so will try anything !

Careful with essential oils / anything that smells. I find some smells either trigger or worsen (make me sensitive) to them.

I find a cold, dim room, cold compress on forehead & syndol to help sleep it off.

Keep a watch out for synthetic smells, heat, foods etc... to see if they trigger. Turn all phones & tablets to dim settings.

Do you get them around your period or mid month?

Beta blockers have helped me enormously. Syndol & sleep when I have a breakthrough head.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 29/10/2020 20:01

Red bull or a taurine supplement plus paracetamol and ibuprofen. Ice pack on the back of my neck.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 29/10/2020 20:01

hot hot shower right on the back of my neck can help fend one off if I wake up with one

otherwise an extra strong coffee, if that comes back up I know I am really in for a bad day

another thing is a peg...it was all over the internet a year or so back, get it pegged onto the webby bit between your thumb and forefinger, I don't know why, but it does work for me. Also it worked for me to really cut short an aura so I keep pegs in my handbag and in the car too

Some plastic pegs are really pinchy though, the best ones are those that have a small plastic pimple on them that would pinch your clothes on the line iyswim.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 29/10/2020 20:04

oh...or you can buy real actual acupressure doodahs

Fluffybutter · 29/10/2020 20:21

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow

AuntyFungal, around my period . I always know when I’m about to come on as the migraine will start . Have tried mini pill etc.. but nothing helped in that respect so just came off altogether and though I get a lot less headaches / migraines I still get the one at the start of my period .
Thanks ChazsBrilliantAttitude will remember for next time

Bless you. You've puked. Now you need to sleep. Nothing else works. Then you'll wake up ravenous and then head back to bed to sleep again. xx

whitewineandmagnums · 29/10/2020 20:54

I feel for you, having been an almost life-long sufferer. My 11 year old has just been struck down with them too and I feel so guilty.

A combination of the above always helps ease one for me:

  • hot shower over head, followed by hairdryer on hot to dry hair (relaxes muscles in neck)
  • coffee
  • chocolate
  • lay head on softest fluffiest pillow you can find
  • wheat bag, hot, wrapped around head
  • STRONG co-codamol if all else fails (the strongest dose will normally kill it completely but I'm reluctant to take too many), followed by a sleep.
  • sleep, sleep, sleep

Feel better soon Thanks

beautifulnorth · 29/10/2020 21:00

I had a thread about this the other day so my huge sympathies go to you. Syndol work for me if I've not caught it with a Triptan in time. I'm trying the aspirin next month though. Take care

HoldMyLobster · 29/10/2020 21:16

Rizatriptan then (if necessary) a sleep. That was my solution this afternoon. Hope you feel better now.

Franberry · 29/10/2020 21:25

There is some good advice on here, a dark room and sleep was really the only thing that worked for me in the past although Migraleve helped a bit. I lost quite a few days to migraines- couldn't carry on normal life at all once it started. I now have Sumitripan from the doctor and it really has changed things for the better, it just stops the attack within half an hour like magic.

shitinmyhandsandclap · 29/10/2020 21:43

Have you considered a preventative? I take propanolol daily as prescribed by doc, was having 3 or 4 migraines a month and was totally incapacitated. Haven't had a single one in the 2 years I've been taking them

Fluffybutter · 30/10/2020 09:36

Morning , feeling a lot better today but still that horrible fuzzy headedness.
Have screenshotted these suggestions to remember for next time .
Haven’t been to the gp about it as trying to avoid them at the moment but might have to bite the bullet.
I’ve had migraines since I was about 9 and my first one was set off by mint chocolate of all things so have always avoided it since then and then started to have them again after having my son but got worse still after having my dd.
I’ve always just suffered through them but time to be proactive!
Sadly my dd who is 9 now had her first one a couple of months ago , (think it was too much screen time )started with the squiggly line which then turned into a very bad headache and then vomiting but after she has been sick she feels a lot better . Will have to keep an eye on that too as makes me feel terrible she may end up like me .
Again , thanks everyone .
Much appreciated !
