Benefits of yoga

I’m starting a yoga class next week for the first time. I’m not very flexible and have hip dysplasia.
Can anyone tell me the benefits they have found from doing yoga?
I am a little bit nervous about it!

Omg that sounds genius. I think that's where I go wrong. I'm so shit at it, and so incredibly disappointed that I'm shit at it I give up.

The main benefits you'll notice is improved flexibility and a better posture, you might also feel calmer too. I've been doing weekly yoga classes since I was 16, me and my mum used to go!

The most important thing with a yoga class is not to compare yourself against other people. Some will have been doing it for years so are understandably better at certain poses. Others will be very fit and strong.

I have been doing yoga for about 10 years but there are poses that I can't do and probably will never do because of physical strength and restrictions. For example I can't do shoulder stands as I have arthritis in my neck.

When I learned to accept that I am what I am and can do what I can do I started enjoying it much more.

Plus a good instructor is crucial. One who will take the time to explain and guide you through your practice and advise on adaptations for different levels of ability.
