Just received a positive test.
Have been pretty exhausted for a couple of days and am quite fevery.
No cough. No change to taste/smell.
I really dont do "resting up" very well.
What should I be aiming to get done?
What will get me better quicker?
I'm already on the multivitamins.
I'm mid 50s, a bit overweight.
Not responsible for anyone else and have sorted online grocery deliveries and online Christmas shopping already.
Poor dog is going to have to cope with just going in the garden for exercise isnt he?

OP posts:

Dioralyte helped along with ibuprofen - sleep laying on your front.
Be aware that it can come in cycles during the day so you can be feeling a bit better then bloody terrible again - don't overdo it when you are feeling a bit better.
Sambucol along with a multi vitamin

@ArsumLardis

Is resting up best? I wonder what would happen if people with C19 went out & exercised hard instead. Apols for stupid question, but idea that response to illness is always best = "rest"... I'm not sure that's proven.
I tried hard exercise in the early days and it was a bad idea.

Also you’re not allowed to go out with active Covid (I think it’s illegal).

pastaislife · 28/10/2020 18:55

Not sure it is really that helpful for multiple people to come on and say they feel terrible months on! I know that this is the difficult reality for some who have had covid, but the OP probably doesn’t need to be scared and worried about that right now..

Egghead68 · 28/10/2020 19:05

I think it’s helpful for her to know it is a possibility, especially as she is in her fifties and at higher risk.

Long Covid wasn’t recognised when I got it. I just couldn’t understand what was happening to me and why I hadn’t got/stayed better after 1-2 weeks and kept trying to exercise myself out of it. It was a relief when I discovered I wasn’t alone, that it was a “thing” and that you just have to let it take its course.

ArsumLardis · 28/10/2020 19:13

'Rona symptoms can be mild. (or even none)

I know sometimes when I've had mild colds, I felt much better for going out & getting aerobic exercise. It made me feel better.

There's lots we don't know about covid. This is one of the things we don't know, too.

Egghead68 · 28/10/2020 19:15

Well I think you could get arrested if you tried that with Covid, ArsumLardis

SamanthaJayne4 · 28/10/2020 19:46

I am late 60's and had Covid19 in April. I was quite unwell but could breathe ok but any mild exertion made me puff a bit. By mild I mean putting a couple of plates in the dishwasher. My appetite went and I lost a stone in 2 weeks. I felt weak, had upset stomach and just felt generally unwell and needed to lie down a lot for about two weeks. I also had brain fog. After that I picked up quickly and when another two weeks had gone was completely better. I am overweight and have type 2 diabetes. I was told by dr in A&E to stop diabetes tablets while I was ill as they don't go well with Covid. I take part in online research and in June they asked me to have a swab test. They wanted to know if the virus remained in the body after recovery. It was negative. I regained the weight quite quickly once my appetite returned!

ArsumLardis · 28/10/2020 19:49

Home exercise videos or equipment, Egghead. It's just a thought because getting trapped indoors for 10 or 14 days sounds pretty miserable without throwing in no exercise as well. They haven't made it illegal to exercise within one's own home (yet).

godhelpusall · 28/10/2020 19:54

@ArsumLardis we do know actually. The research shows that the virus is cardiotropic and in studies on people who have had Covid- even asymptomatic Covid- a large number had heart damage. It has been made very clear that exercise whilst ill with Covid is a very bad idea.

You are legally obliged to remain at home for 10 days after the symptoms start. Track and trace like to send you multiple daily texts and calls to remind you

It is now a legal duty to self-isolate. This means that you could be fined if you do not stay at home and self-isolate.

CoffeeRunner · 28/10/2020 19:55

Been suffering since my positive test in May. I also work on a ward with Covid patients and, sorry to say, so far as I can see it’s pretty much a matter of luck whether you recover quickly or not.

jmh740 · 28/10/2020 19:59

I'm on day 3 in bed, got up for a shower today and that wiped me out for the day, ive been confined to the bedroom to stay away from oh who is extremely vulnerable, ive watched loads of TV but can't concentrate enough to read a book

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 28/10/2020 20:04

I dont know if I did have covid, it was at the start and I wasn't that sick, but absolutely knackered.

Either way, I'd say you need to just rest up, even if you are one of those people like my dh who is rubbish at being ill, determined to try to "do stuff", rather than sit still.

Get some books that aren't all that taxing (download on a kindle app to avoid having to go get them!), or pick a box set on TV, set yourself up with a snuggly blanket, a pint of water /squash and some biscuits. Read and avoid moving more than you need to.

Focus on sitting. Doing feck all, let your body heal.

caffeinebuzz · 28/10/2020 20:09

For me I had quite a few 'false starts' where I thought I felt ready to resume light activity but really wasn't and so it set me back further. So, as difficult as it is, rest, rest and more rest!

Allywill · 28/10/2020 20:12

but it can’t be luck whether you recover quickly or not. there must a scientific reason some people get more ill than others or take longer to recover even if we don’t understand what that reason is.

Coffeeandcocopops · 28/10/2020 20:46

I’ve been told lemons - hot lemon and water and fresh lemon on everything.

What exercise regime did you do when you had Covid? Please do share?
MrsGatsby99 · 28/10/2020 20:58

Breathing exercises. There was one doing the rounds on social media made by a doctor which I found useful and made a slight difference. Hope you feel better soon.

EmeraldShamrock · 28/10/2020 21:09

Do what you can to rest. Read MN in bed keep the phone near by.
I've no experience thankfully just wanted to wish you luck. Flowers

JuneAndy · 28/10/2020 21:10

@ArsumLardis - I can tell you what happens when you have Covid and try to exercise hard. I am very fit, and thought I could tackle it by keeping active. So Days 1-4, temp and fatigue, couldn't exercise but kept busy round the house and kept working. Day 5, temp gone, thought better, exercised at moderate intensity. Evening of Day 5, temp spikes again and feel worse than before. Spend 4 days in bed, not moving. When I rested completely I got better more quickly - I could actually tell when the virus had left my body, and from there built it back up very gradually. I was lucky and despite my failure to take it seriously at first I did make a full recovery within 2-3 weeks.

Rest, and make sure you really are feeling better before resuming normal activity levels (watch out for Day 5).

ScrapThatThen · 28/10/2020 21:28

My db went back to exercise when he felt better and had a big setback, so take it easy.

Sakesman · 28/10/2020 21:33

Sleep as much as you can. Full dose paracetamol. Loads and I mean loads of water helps the breathlessness and sleeping face down direction couch whilst elevated with cushions. Peppermint tea or dagger good. Try and eat tangerines or berries (psychological). Have a few oven dinners in for heating up for kids if you’re responsible for them.

Sakesman · 28/10/2020 21:33

Water not dagger 🙄

oakleaffy · 28/10/2020 21:35

@CovidClara

Oximeter for reassurance Take temp for reassurance (I didnt have a temp at all) Lemsip and ibruprofen for the headache (massive) and sore throat (fist few days)
@CovidClara

Back in march lockdown I had severe sore throat and tickly cough, but I was on opioid painkillers for something else which squashes cough reflex.

I felt a bit breathless, {kneeling on 'all fours' seemed to ease breathlessness for some reason.

Didn't have thermometer as none to be found, Not sure if covid or not?
