Reverse parking?

Is it a new thing that places are stipulating it?
My DC's school stipulates that we must reverse park in the school car park.
My new place of work is now also the same!
Is this the norm now? I mean I don't mind doing it as it doesn't bother me but I'm just interested in knowing if others have the same policies at work, school etc??

Our school have put a stop to parents parking in school grounds, mainly because the car park now has to be used to let children/parents enter in a socially distanced way. But prior to this there had been a couple of near misses with cars and children. I always reverse park anyway, but it seems sensible for schools to ask this.

I’ve seen this in a few places. We have it at work. It is safer to drive out facing forward, so it makes sense to me.

Our nursery used to ask for this because with lots of children & parents walking across the car park it’s much safer for everyone to drive out forwards.

My office used to stipulate it, as it's a tight carpark anyway, put then people would double park to maximise space --- reversing in made getting out easier.

I guess with schools the theory is you'll reverse in when there are less kids wandering around; rather than reversing to exit when it's more likely a small person will walk behind the car.

Oh yeah I totally see that it's safer and as I said I don't mind. Just wondering how common it is. Thanks
