To skip fillers and go straight for a face lift?

I am 47 and am getting a little jowly. Nothing horrid but I'm not happy with it and when I don't wear make up I feel so old because of that. The rest of my face is OK. I heard fillers can help but am wondering whether the short-lived span, 'mild' results and the fact they'd need to be done multiple times, makes them worth it. So I've made appointments with a couple of surgeons to look into mini facelifts. Am I going too far too soon? Will I then want a second lift in 10 or 15 years? Should I try fillers first? AIBU to skip fillers and go straight for the knife at 47? I'd appreciate thoughts from others who are in a similar 'jowl position' and/or who had fillers/a facelift.

No advice but following with interest. I am late 30s and have botox, but no fillers. Jowls are just starting to form, and looking at my mother and grandmother, I think I have until about 45 before I need to get serious.
My worry with fillers is that it is ongoing, I think surgery will be my best bet.

It all sounds really painful and invasive. You don’t owe the world a perfect face and I’m sure you look lovely as you are. Sorry I know that’s not the answer you wanted. But could you be happy with a nice face oil and spend the money on something more pleasurable for yourself?

You can get lower facelifts, and ‘lite’ ones without cutting I think now too. I think they use a thread type thing to pull it back.

.. I only know because my friends have had procedures though, so I’m definitely not an expert Grin

Following with interest. I'm 46 and having the same thoughts, quite interested in the thread lift. I posted in style and beauty a while back asking for experiences/recommendations but got no responses.

I too doubt that fillers will really do the job as it's more the case that the skin on my face (and body to be fair) has gone baggy and doesn't seem to fit over the muscoskelature of my face any more. I don't want to look "young" just "well" and good for my age rather than tired and saggy. My husband, kids and friends love me as I am so it would be just for my own pleasure. I am vain but I always have been, sorry mumsnetters!

Yes a mini facelift might be enough. I'd like recovery time to not be too long. And to be able to go out without looking too bruised for too long. But I'm keen to get a good, fast result and softly softly doesn't cut it anymore.
