To think work are being unreasonable regarding parking?

So I work in a care home but we have been told only two cars are to park outside the home because a neighbour keeps complaining about the amount of cars parked up. Problem is there is nowhere else to park for miles. So if there are more than two cars already parked we have been told to go into the nearest village and park there instead. If I park at the nearest pub, I have two options A, walk for twenty five minutes or B, wait and pay for the bus. I am quite annoyed. AIBU?

If it's a public road and you're parking legally then neither the neighbour or the care home can tell you where you can park.

Are you parking on the road?

Nsky · 27/10/2020 20:21

Why no care home car park.
Use the bus

londongirl12 · 27/10/2020 20:23

Yes the neighbours might complain, but they don't own the road. If you're parked legally, then it's not a problem. Is this a new care home? Surely there's always been cars parked there?

FTMF30 · 27/10/2020 20:23

You can't be told where to park if it's on a public road.

Merryoldgoat · 27/10/2020 20:25

If you are parked legally on a public highway they can jog on and you can park where you’re like.

We have this at our job - my boss told the other party to fuck off (more politely).

bonjonbovi · 27/10/2020 20:25

You could be bringing the company into disrepute by continuing to park there, when told not to.

mrsmrt1981 · 27/10/2020 20:27

@Clymene It’s a country lane so not sure it’s that’s still considered a public road or not. The home is small (only 9 residents) so no car park.

You should not use public transport unnecessarily at this time, it’s an unnecessary risk to your residents in this case (when you have a car you’re using anyway).

ScreamingBeans · 27/10/2020 20:33

It's the public highway
If it's safe and it's legal, it's no one else's business

nitsandwormsdodger · 27/10/2020 20:34

Your work are being considerate to not piss the neighbours off but if you are all parked legally and considerately the neighbour will have to be told to suck it up

Al1langdownthecleghole · 27/10/2020 20:39

Where do visitors park? (when visiting is allowed)

LovingLivingLife · 27/10/2020 20:40

Personally I would say I would be happy to park in the village at the start of my shift if they are happy to pay for my walking time from car to work. Otherwise, I would remind them that it's a public right of way and as such nobody is able to enforce parking there.

We don’t get many but when they come they are allowed up park outside as it’s usually only for a short period.

9 residents - how many staff? How many would do the same hours? Can you share from the car park, so fewer cars?

BlueThistles · 27/10/2020 21:20

the Neighbour does not own the road. Flowers

ScreamingBeans · 27/10/2020 22:39

I'm a bit Hmm about an employer who is more considerate to the neighbors than the employees

Ha! Welcome to the world of professional caring.

YANBU.

Since it's the "care" sector (where companies never care about their employees), I bet they won't pay for the increased travelling time that their demands would result in. You're considered not working when you're travelling, am I correct? In that case the company's ability to discipline you for your conduct when you're not at work is limited, but not non-existent. They could well claim unpopular parking, even though it's entirely safe and legal, is "bringing the company into disrepute" or suchlike. And if you have been working for less than 2 years they can sack you regardless.

Whammyyammy · 27/10/2020 23:46

Ignore the local residents . Its a public road, THEY DO NOT OWN IT

Kaydogsdinner · 27/10/2020 23:48

Public highway so well within your rights to park!
Sad that your residents don't get many visitors Sad

Chloemol · 27/10/2020 23:58

It’s a public highway. As long as you park so that others can pass you are legally allowed to do so

I would be asking my boss

  1. Will they be paying for the time taken to walk to the home ? No thought not
  2. Are they aware that we shouldn’t be using public transport if at all possible
3 it’s a public highway and therefore anyone can park there legally

4 you will be parking on the road as it’s your legal entitlement to do so, and you hope hey will now support all the staff at the home by relaying this to the neighbour

If they really want to help they need to find a way to provide staff parking on site

Saz12 · 28/10/2020 00:02

By “country lane” is it a clearway? In which case you’d not be parked legally...
