DH says he supports whatever choice I make, my sisters say they will disown me.

They do look very snug, however I am only 50.

I don’t want anything elegant or silky or bombshell, been there done that. I want something warm with a zip. Possibly with pockets for my lip salve.

I attempted to buy one a couple of years ago. I tried it on to show my sister and she laughed so hard I sent it back.

Are these the kind of things sold in those weird catalogues for the over 90s?

Yellowmellow2 · 27/10/2020 18:45

*I already own these 🤭

LOVE the look of these @TatianaBis!

MaudHatter · 27/10/2020 18:47

I love those slipper boots 😍 Not especially grannyish either .

I have one of the oversize hoodies for when I'm sat at home working since my desk's in the conservatory (only space available when the world shut down) and it can get a bit cold in here when the heating's not on. No one's seeing it but me and the house so I don't care as long as I'm warm.

bananamonkey · 27/10/2020 19:11

@misskatamari

I say go for it! Being warm and cosy for the win!

I did get one of these from my mil last Christmas tho, which I snuggle up in on winter evenings (I'm 37), so I may not be the best judge when it comes to these matters

I kind of want one but I can’t stop laughing at this picture. Then again if wearing it will make me this happy...🤔

When I stay with my mother, I get to wear one of her fleecy zip up dressing gowns. We look quite the stylish duo!

VitreousHumour · 27/10/2020 19:15

@Xiaoxiong they're lovely but I am more no-nonsense and less frou-frou.

YANBU buying the zip fleece dressing gown
However
YABU calling it a housecoat

Didyousaynutella · 27/10/2020 19:33

I have a toweling long hoody like kids have for swimming (with full arms not a poncho) that boden did one season. I prefer it to a dressing gown as less bulky and doesn’t fall open all the time. It’s the best. Don’t understand why boden don’t do them any more.

Yes!

Possibly to be found at the back of the Radio Times with walk-in baths and wide-fitting comfort shoes.

To be fair the one I’m eyeing does actually call itself a house coat.

My neighbour is 90. So the 70s were a big era for her. She has THE BEST curtains and furniture but, more to the point, she rocks a zipped up house coat. Different styles, colours. I covet them. She looks so comfortable.

How about this beauty from Damart?

Crankley · 27/10/2020 23:33

I have a very fluffy dressing gown which I bought from M & S last year. With the hood up I look a bit like a yeti. I'm desperately trying to convince myself that it would be perfectly acceptable to wear it to go to my local shop on my mobility scooter but I just haven't got the guts to do it. I don't know how people go out wearing their pyjamas.

lazyfecker · 28/10/2020 04:44

I think stuff like this is going to sell really well when the recession bites and bills go up. I have a cosy fleece slanket and fake Uggs as I feel the cold a lot. Oh and cords are so much warmer to wear too!

echt · 28/10/2020 05:51

The grin on that Damart model's face has a scarily fixed aspect.

Happynow001 · 28/10/2020 08:27

Too late! I'm in fleece everything - including fleecy socks and I'm very cozy indeed. I bought myself one of the oversized fleece hoodies someone mentioned above and feel so cozy I still haven't put my central heating on. I so don't care what other people think whilst I'm comfy, cozy and saving money... 🌹

catanddogmake6 · 28/10/2020 08:40

M&S have this one this year. If it’s any help and saves you from the damart catalogue.

Mellonsprite · 28/10/2020 08:42

To be fair the one I’m eyeing does actually call itself a house coat.

I think ‘house coat’ is an older term, or maybe a northern expression. As I understand it a house coat is slightly different to a dressing gown, similar but not the same and not only worn over nightwear.... my grandma referred to her house coat and it was ‘smarter’ than a dressing gown.

Abraid2 · 28/10/2020 09:25

My ideal would be something like this, but lined in something warm and more fitted:
