To be pissed off at Mumsnet

HotDiggidy2017 · 27/10/2020 15:05

Every 2 days asking to reset my GDPR preferences so that they can get-to selling my data? I appreciate that ‘no’ is not the answer all those vendors called media-this and marketing-that and claiming ‘legitimate interest’ were after but do I have to keep telling them the same thing all the time, it takes ages to rest it all back to my preferences

YABU - to even care how mumsnet uses your data and this is a super boring post
YANBU - we should care about our data in this day and age

I've suddenly had to start inputting my data choices each day. Very frustrating. I wish there was a 'reject all' button like some other sites have.

stackemhigh · 27/10/2020 15:08

YANBU, I know GDPR is important but I’m losing so much time clicking accept on every bloody website, especially when it decides to freeze (I really should get a new tablet).

Having said that I have got much better at regularly deleting my cookies. Google is the worst at this, God knows how much data they have collected from me.

JuliaJohnston · 27/10/2020 15:09

There's a thread about this in Site Stuff. MNHQ don't appear inclined to do anything to remedy it.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 27/10/2020 15:09

There is a thread about this in site stuff, It is happening numerous times a day.

HotDiggidy2017 · 27/10/2020 15:23

Thanks for the replies and it’s good to know I’m not the only one being bombarded with it!

Its pissing me right off

Im within a gnats nadger of saying fuckit and logging off

No other website i look at or use makes me do this

SlopesOff · 27/10/2020 16:21

I noticed it too, and it is bloody annoying. Usually if a site does this I just close it down. I use Brave browser which shows how many unwanted and undesirable things there are on a site and i am really fed up with being spied on.

BertieBloopsMum · 27/10/2020 16:24

I thought it was just me for some reason, on Mumsnet I've had the pop up loads of times in the last couple of days.

When a forum starts treating its users with such disdain, things are usually on the way out. People get fed up with being used and ignored by the site.

MissConductUS · 27/10/2020 16:24

Try ad blocker plus and privacy badger.

What pisses me off about MN is their refusal to take down even the vilest anti-American posts.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 27/10/2020 16:26

I wouldn’t mind if this attitude was new (well i would but you know wha5 i mean)

I had to install an ad blocker because mumsnet was completely unusable without it

thegcatsmother · 27/10/2020 16:33

I thought it was just me. Every time I go on mn on either my desktop or tablet, it pops up. Grr.

I just set everything to no.

MashedSweetSpud · 27/10/2020 16:50

It’s happened to me numerous times today.

SlopesOff · 27/10/2020 16:57

Ad blocker doesn't stop the signing in annoyance.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 27/10/2020 16:58

@SlopesOff

Ad blocker doesn't stop the signing in annoyance.
Er no

But it stops the ads that made mumsnet unusable

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 27/10/2020 16:59

Apologies slopes i thought you were talking to me

ThistleWitch · 27/10/2020 17:00

I'm going to report your post so Mumsnet are aware there is a problem and they need to look at it :-)

GreySkyClouds · 27/10/2020 17:03

It’s really annoying and it feels like it’s to trip us up as they want to raise more money by selling our data.

They're already aware. They've announced that they've done their "final tweak" and ignored anyone telling them it's still happening.

The "have you done the GDPR panel?" thing is stored in a cookie.

When you delete the cookies, MN (and other sites) think you haven't accepted the GDPR thing, and show it to you again.

ChasedByFox · 27/10/2020 17:16

So annoying, as there are dozens and dozens of companies to opt out of. It's absolutely outrageous that there is no "opt out of all" button, like many sites provide. It took me five minutes to unclick them all on my phone Angry

BiddyPop · 27/10/2020 17:24

Even if you are allowing all cookies, it is popping up all the time at the moment......grrrr

It's starting to make me wonder what is so important that we need to constantly verify - and that maybe I should start saying "no" you can't use it....

Ah interesting, I had thought it was just because I was saying no to all so they were trying to trip me up by asking Me to rest it every 5 mins.

Since the GDPR regs came in I've made it a matter of principle to opt out of everything. Honestly not convinced that companies even pay any attention as really who’s going to find out but it feels like we have so little control of our data I want to use what little I do have 🤷‍♀️

I know, but I would prefer to delete my cookies.

Totally agree, they are clearly just trying to make it as difficult as possible for users!
