To think there are some programmes / films you should only watch at night or in the evening?

For me, things like The Handmaids Tale and Poldark....
I suppose I just associate them with dark evenings and they just don't feel 'right' in the day.
Or am I weird? Confused

Weird

SaffieSoph · 26/10/2020 20:32

Certain horror films - yes I agree you should watch at night. Not the same if it’s 7am.

The two you’ve suggested I’d probably watch anytime.

CitizenClem · 26/10/2020 20:35

I don’t associate any TV with the daytime as for me it’s an evening activity

StillCoughingandLaughing · 26/10/2020 20:50

I think I get it. I wouldn’t say you ‘shouldn’t’ watch certain programmes in the day, but I tend to be more in the mood for an involved drama at night than I would do on a Saturday afternoon, for example.

YANBU

I very rarely watch TV during the day

I might watch a sports event or news occasionally but can't imagine watching a drama or film before about 730pm

waitforitwaitforit · 26/10/2020 21:07

I kind of agree. DH and I watched the final episode of Breaking Bad in the afternoon, just to get it finished (at last). But it felt wrong, and weird to then get up and then go on with our day. I don't know if it's an age thing. We're old, and any TV during the day tends to be Cbeebies.

cariadlet · 26/10/2020 21:15

I'd watch most dramas and films any time. Some I associate with afternoons - the kind of old black and white films that might be shown on tv on a Sunday afternoon back in the day when there only 3 channels and no streaming.

But I'd only watch a scary film in the evening or at night. They wouldn't have the same impact in the daytime.

Coffeekisses · 26/10/2020 21:16

Completely agree!

Some things are fairly daytimey (assuming DC are not at home!) like Downton Abbey and soaps etc. But more epic/entertainmenty things deserve night time, lamps down low, popcorn at the ready!

mineofuselessinformation · 26/10/2020 21:19

I'm glad it's not just me! I've been binge-watching The Handmaid's Tale again recently and had a bit of a ponder when I realised I didn't feel right watching it in the daytime.... Smile

Feels wrong to watch anything 15 or 18 rated in the living room with the curtains open. Always have to get up and close them on the rare occasions I'm watching something like that during the day.

Fatted · 26/10/2020 21:22

YABU. Unless it's something very dark and you don't have black out curtains. I really struggled with the last series of Game of Thrones in the middle of summer!

I also tend not to watch certain TV shows in the day because of the kids being around.

WhySoSensitive · 26/10/2020 21:22

I’ve just watched haunting of Bly manor and had to wait till the evening. I tried an episode through the day but the atmosphere isn’t the same when Dave the postman is waving through the window.

funinthesun19 · 26/10/2020 21:26

Even before I read your OP and just saw the title I thought,

“Poldark” Grin

Plussizejumpsuit · 26/10/2020 22:24

I did try to watch handmaid's tale during the day in the past month. It wasn't working for me and I love it! So yes I understand what you mean. It just didn't feel like day time viewing.

mineofuselessinformation · 27/10/2020 00:39

Ooh, I totally associate Poldark with dark winter evenings! Grin
