And was it worth it? Do you recommend it?

Yes and yes!! Absolutely, mine ended up being a year and a half. Had a blast!!

I did my degree and masters, then went off travelling. For me, I needed to stay studying whilst I was still in the zone! But definitely travel as far and as wide as you can

Yes, I did, and it was one of the best things I ever did. I don’t know how it would work while Covid continues, mind you.

Yes and yes. I bought a round the world ticket and set off with a friend of a friend. Someone I barely knew and we parted ways in Australia when she stayed on to work whilst I continued travelling on my own.

My DH had 2 gaps years and we're both keen for our DC to have them too.

I’d recommend some kind of Camp America or work abroad scheme/ski season rather than a year of holiday.

I am sure a year of dossing around is fun, especially if someone else is paying for it, but I think an 18-21 year old would get more in the way of life skills out of working their way around the world instead.

I did it. Loved it. Would totally recommend it. Worked for a year to save the money, then did a mix of travel and work on a round the world ticket. Went on my own, which I’d also recommend

I did when I was 18, but I think I was too young to get the most out of it. First time leaving home and going to the other side of the world, but I was very shy with low self esteem and well travelling around Australia when you hate your body and can't enjoy beaches/pools just meant I didn't experience it in full. Though I did enjoy it and had a lot of fun, if I went when I was 25 to 30 I would have really made the most of it.

Yes, when I was 26.

Was bloody amazing, don’t regret any of it, amazing experiences, was the best decision ever - I quit a boring shitty job and sold my house to go. Met my DH whilst travelling.

Will always encourage my children to travel.
