Worried about being reported for dangerous driving

ljn1650 · 26/10/2020 15:17

I was exiting a motorway today via a roundabout. I misjudged the gap, and pulled out in front of another driver. It was entirely my fault and I accept responsibility for it.

She naturally went mad, beeping and gesturing at me, then carried on driving her way in another direction to me.

I feel terrible, and wondering if I'm going to get into trouble if she reports me.

No, the chances of her having filmed you, sending it to the police, and them acting on it are slim to non existent.

We all make mistakes.

FloreanFortescue · 26/10/2020 15:25

Slim to non. Put it to the back of your mind.

earlydoors42 · 26/10/2020 15:48

No that won't happen, don't worry!

KindergartenKop · 26/10/2020 15:54

No. She was just pissed off. She's obviously in too much of a rush to report you. Nobody got hurt, take more care next time and stop stressing about it! I get like this sometimes though, so I understand!

TheQueef · 26/10/2020 16:00

It was a near miss.
A miss.
Allow it to shit you up and concentrate more.
Don't catastrophise it, everyone has done it Brew

VinylDetective · 26/10/2020 16:01

We’ve all done it. Use it as a wake up call.

Mumofsend · 26/10/2020 16:02

We've all misjudged at one point or another. People who react like she did are the issue, not you

CakeRequired · 26/10/2020 16:03

Eh you won't do it again now will you haha. We all make mistakes, sucks when they happen but no one got hurt. Doubtful that you'll get dangerous driving as a sentence, even if police show up at your door, it will be a slap on the wrist type thing and only because they've got nothing better to do.

CottonSock · 26/10/2020 16:03

Very unlikely. And what would the police do. You didn't cause an accident. Try and put it behind you.

JacobReesMogadishu · 26/10/2020 16:05

The police aren’t even interested in actual collisions unless someone is hurt or the driver is drunk, etc. A near miss due to a misjudgement rather than blatantly reckless driving wouldnt be followed up.

HaHaVeryBunny · 26/10/2020 16:07

Not a chance she will report you. Try not to worry.

dementedpixie · 26/10/2020 16:11

Shes not going to report you. Sometimes these things happen

DynamoKev · 26/10/2020 16:14

You are at zero risk of getting into trouble for that. Police have zero time for following up stuff like this at the moment.

SurreyHillsGirl · 26/10/2020 16:15

I'm a v calm driver but I think in a near miss that could have been a very serious accident like the one the OP describes, it's a pretty normal reaction to beep the horn and 'go mad' at the person who has caused it, unless you are a Buddhist monk!
gamerchick · 26/10/2020 16:15

She's not going to report you.

This happened to me recently, someone pulled out on me at a roundabout and I missed her by a knats dick I swear. As did the car right behind me had to slam the anchors on.

I felt really bad later on once I'd stopped shaking, that I called her a fucking wanker, with horns going. Just no need to kick off when someone makes a mistake.

Stop worrying and just pay attention next time. Slow and steady, it's not worth hurrying.

lockeddownandcrazy · 26/10/2020 16:18

Even if she had a dashcam nothing actually happened, so dont stress about it. You know what you did and hopefully wont do it again so just think it must have been a lucky day as you didnt touch, and move on.

PleasantVille · 26/10/2020 16:18

Do you drive a lot?

It's a little worrying that you did that in the first place, I drive a lot and if I get cut up at a roundabout it's pretty much always deliberately by the type of driver you'd expect to do it, what do you mean by misjudged the gap?

Lweji · 26/10/2020 16:18

You're overreacting.

Just be more careful next time.

Punkpumpkin · 26/10/2020 16:22

She’s not going to report you.

She was annoyed with you because you drove badly, she showed she was annoyed by beeping her horn. That’s it! Stop overthinking. She’s probably forgotten about it by now.

CheetasOnFajitas · 26/10/2020 16:27

It won’t have crossed her mind to report you and the police would not be interested. What makes you think that people go around reporting near misses to the police? The only thing I can think of is when people report commercial drivers to their employers if they are seen to be driving dangerously, often there’s a number on the van or lorry encouraging that.

Just chalk it up to experience and use it to inspire you to be more careful in future. Are you a very new driver?

BigBadVoodooHat · 26/10/2020 16:33

Have you not been driving for very long? I only ask because everyone who drives has misjudged, pulled out when they shouldn’t have, and incurred the wrath of another driver. You’re shook up for a while, you feel stupid, and you feel grateful things didn’t turn out worse.

I’ve done it. I’ve had it done to me countless times. It happens thousands of times everyday and everywhere.

You’re not going to receive a driving conviction.

cdtaylornats · 26/10/2020 16:39

Near miss - a phrase used to pretend it wasn't dangerous. It was a near hit.

GameSetMatch · 26/10/2020 16:40

She won’t report you, even if she did nothing happened? The police won’t care one bit and there’s no evidence.

TeamLucille · 26/10/2020 16:47

She was rightly annoyed with you, you nearly crashed into her, and even at a roundabout probably not going that slowly if straight from the motorway.

Nothing happened. She will be more cautious in roundabouts for awhile, you will have learnt not to barge in front of other drivers. It's life.

PolarBearStrength · 26/10/2020 16:54

Think of all the times someone has cut you up, dangerously overtaken you, not looked at a roundabout etc. Have you ever reported any of them? Or have you just been briefly pissed off and then continued with your day? We’ve all made the occasional mistake.
