Hi

Sorry to post on aibu but I really need some responses

Please could you advise what careers/jobs will accept my transferable skills that I have as a nurse ?

I want to leave the nursing profession , the reasoning is complex but i still would like to help people and am compassionate .

I would need to earn 30 k as per my current salary.

Many thanks !

Foster carer.
Childminder.
Nanny (good ones earn very well)
Social care assessor.
Social work (would require retraining)
What about sideways moves into things like safeguarding or DOLs assessing.
Then theres private care work or agency work.
Good luck.

bluedeb47 · 26/10/2020 14:52

Thank you @Serin for those suggestions ! They have gave me something to think about . I am trained in safeguarding and do quite a lot as part of my role , can't seem to find these sorts of jobs on nhs though , do you know which other sites I could use ? I only use indeed or nhs at the moment .

Theres also work in schemes that house vulnerable adults I guess.
Custody/police nursing.

Serin · 26/10/2020 14:56

Have a look at your local council's website, you can filter there quite easily.
For nanny work the go to place used to be "The lady" website but I'm not sure these days.
Foster care is either local govt or private agency. Private agency osys more but often they deal with "harder to place" children.

The health and social care assessor also looks good. Just having a look to see what training course Is best. Brilliant thank you never thought to look on council . I have always just use nhs or indeed. Thank you !

You could transfer to a gp practice as a nurse. Depending why you want to leave nursing, the practice nurse role is very different and much less stressful.

ittooshallpass · 26/10/2020 15:15

What about private healthcare? There are lots of nursing jobs which don't have the hours and stress of the NHS.

Darkestseasonofall · 26/10/2020 15:15

Have you definitely explored all aspects of nursing? I tried quite a few areas before I found my niche, and I'm really happy at work now (hated the wards though)

JacobReesMogadishu · 26/10/2020 15:17

Uni lecturer. You can normally start without a masters or a teaching cert.

Lifeisabeach09 · 26/10/2020 15:19

Agree with above.
Still nursing but agency and working in nursing homes tend to be a slower pace for better rates of pay.
Alternatively, occupational health but you need an OH qualification for this.
I'd avoid social work-I feel it's more stressful than nursing and harder to leave at the door.
Have a look at local CCG offerings or indeed.co.uk.

bluedeb47 · 26/10/2020 15:19

I don't work on the wards..

I work In private healthcare

I am office based but stagnant

I just want a new direction

Nursing homes may be an option.

The issue is I work 2 long days (25 hours ) which is fab for toddler daughter as a he is looked after 1 day at nursery and one day with partner.

I was offered a job within nhs recently but 9-5 4 days and they actually offered me less pay than what I am on now .

I can't afford to take a pay cut .

Health Visitor?

bluedeb47 · 26/10/2020 15:24

@Spam88 yes I did think of that also but i believe the training course is once a year.

School nurse , Health and Wellbeing person....nursing transfers into education quite a lot.

nevermorelenore · 26/10/2020 15:33

The 111 service near us is always desperate for people with nursing qualifications and they seem to pay well. Nurses are also always needed in care homes, and that area is bound to grow.

PeanutButterFalcon · 26/10/2020 15:36

I am a nurse in a care home and would say to avoid if you are looking for growth. I feel stuck and cannot find anything with similar pay and freedom to pick shifts.

Glitteryone · 26/10/2020 15:41

Train in aesthetics & do lip fillers, Botox, etc?

PIP Assessor - I know a nurse that recently moved into this and she started on £35K plus company car.

bluedeb47 · 26/10/2020 15:42

@nevermorelenore that is very similar to what I do now .. there isn't much room for growth and development..

@PeanutButterFalcon thanks for the heads up 😊

Following as been nursing for 16 years and desperate to get out.
I'm
I'm on a Band 7 in the community so really tied to salary.
I've been looking for years for ways out but feel stuck unless I take a drop in salary.
Hope you find something right for you @bluedeb47

Waveysnail · 26/10/2020 16:28

Depends if you want to do more training? STP training for genetic counsellor or clinical scientist.

Spidey66 · 26/10/2020 16:35

Im interested too... Band 6 CPN but currently hating it. Spend my day assessing patients only to tell them due to a combination of overstretched resources and covid guidelines that all we can offer is medication. Oh and endless Safeguarding Alerts.
