Is this a normal snagging list or a bodge job?

I had a small ensuite bathroom redone in Aug/Sept and have a long snagging list they are yet to fix, unsure if the amount is usual as need more work doing elsewhere in property and wondering if I avoid in future ?

Some not all include

  1. They damaged shower fitting when installing so water gushes out of a hole in fitting at waist height rather than over head ...plumber put mastic in hole which blew as soon as shower turned on so unusable until part replaced
  1. Forgot to grout under sink
  1. Forgot to grout or mastic round extractor fan .
  1. Didn't install vent in basin so a horrible gurgling noise when sink used , no issue before with old sink
  1. Some tiles uneven noticeably so, walls were replastered so shouldn't be !
  1. Damaged skirting and paintwork outside bathroom door, skirting to be replaced as they ripped up damaged part
  1. Forgot to out top of box in on top of radiator so looks a mess

Other bits and pieces and over 6 weeks layer still waiting as they had to self isolate , then other jobs , loads of excuses!

Kept 10% back till fixed but now irritated

This is an insane snagging list. You have an en-suite yet can't use the shower? I don't think I'd have paid them for little other than the materials!

tinkerbellvspredator · 26/10/2020 13:28

Bodge job. One of those I would accept as a mistake/oversight but that list is a disaster.

Lolapusht · 26/10/2020 13:30

What did they actually do if that’s just some of the stuff they mucked up?! All of that sounds like pretty standard stuff that should be happening eg grouting, not damaging the shower you’re installing (and holes in things that have high pressure water tend not to end well!). Definitely hold back 10% (you’ll probably need the money to pay someone to fix things) and don’t even contemplate having them back!

KitchenConfidential · 26/10/2020 13:30

That’s not a snagging list - that’s a complete cock up and unfinished job.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 26/10/2020 13:32

Thats unacceptable especially as the shower is unuseable.

Deadcatbounce · 26/10/2020 13:40

Thanks all, first building work I've done and used this company as someone I know used them.
Still have a bath.
Plumber who did most of the work used to start at 8am, then started leaving earlier ad earlier so was 3pm as he said he had a long drive home, then 2pm and then 1pm, so he charged for 14 days but actually full working days I'd say about 10!

That's not a snagging list. That's a bodge job. Ask him to come back and put all these things right.

LakieLady · 26/10/2020 13:45

That's an appalling snagging list, OP. I wouldn't have paid for his labour until he'd come back and sorted it all.

Deadcatbounce · 26/10/2020 13:54

I've been waiting since about 20th Sept for them to fix, how kong before I say forget it and in get someone else to do it?

How many times have you contacted them (with a detailed list of the problems) and what have they said? If this is the first they’re hearing about it then they obviously need time to come visit, see what needs fixing and schedule a time to come over. If, however, they’ve known about this since Sept and they’ve just not bothered getting back to or have fobbed you off then I’d give them one last chance to come fix it then call it quits. Let them know what you’re doing so they get a final, final chance to sort it out. Have you paid 90% already? I’d also be challenging them on the hours worked.
Deadcatbounce · 26/10/2020 16:28

Hi, I sent a list of issues on 23 Sept and they keep promising to come and then can't for whatever reason!

Ps is it normal that if a plumber lives a fair way away he does a shorter day to compensate for travel?

Sack them off! Leaving early because you live far away is a nonsense. That’s like telling your boss you’ll have to leave at 4pm instead of 5pm as you’ve got an hour commute. He either doesn’t take the job because it takes him longer than 10 minutes to get home or he accepts that he’ll be home late.
Mintychoc1 · 26/10/2020 23:21

You need to start nagging them, calling every day.

Freddiefox · 26/10/2020 23:32

Is get someone else to quote for the fixing of the job first and see if the 10% will cover it.

olympicsrock · 26/10/2020 23:35

That is awful. Not snagging- botch job. Need to threaten trading standards

Felifox · 26/10/2020 23:35

What @Freddiefox says.

MrsClatterbuck · 27/10/2020 00:03

It shouldn't have taken 14 days to put in a new ensuite I would have thought. Seven days at most.

Deadcatbounce · 20/11/2020 17:57

Update

After much nagging builders came back today to finish work. Unfortunately they bought wrong shower fitting , wrong sized sink vent and forgot the rest of bits that needed finishing so didn't have materials to finish anything and left after half an hour

Unbelievble !
