To ask help to understand my weighing scales

I started OMAD last week and have weighed a couple of times. The first time a few days ago I had lost a lb, great but today that’s back on so I’m exactly the same as my starting weight despite the fact that I have stuck within my reduced calorie intake. Is this normal?

Also my scales measure Percentage of body fat (not sure if that’s the same as BMI?), but this is lower today than a couple of days ago when I was a lb lighter, is that usual too?

I’d be really grateful if someone could advise whether this is normal or whether my scales are dodgy!

Weight can go up or down by a few pounds from day to day depending on diet or time of the month.

Body fat % can be influenced by your hydration - might not be accurate.

Weight can fluctuate on a number of things. If I eat a lot of carbs or am just before/first part of my period I retain water so am always heavier.

I weigh once a week, measure once a month and hope for a downwards trend - I'm on month 12 now! Try not to let one bad week put you off.

The body measurements bit is interesting, if I've had a month where I haven't been as good with food (both August and September) I often don't lose very much weight but because I'm exercising regularly I have contributed to lose cm's off my body.

Sorry meant to say. 2 weeks ago despite trying really hard, on weigh in I'd lost 100g...last week I tried equally hard and lost 1kg...!

If you gain water weight but no fat then your body fat percentage will go down because a larger proportion of your body weight will be made up of lean body weight (water is lean body weight).

So what has probably happened is you lost a small amount of fat and then gained some water weight.

Agree with other posters, your weight fluctuates naturally so you need to concentrate on the trend over a few weeks rather than comparing between two measurements a few days apart.

I go up and down by about 5lb from morning to night and then back again.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 26/10/2020 12:20

I can go 1.5kg up or within one week.
For example one day last number is 5, next day it's 6.1, next day 4.9🤷🏻
And that's why I refuse to now weight more often than once a week
