I live far away from my sweet grandma, it's her 80th soon, I want to send her a gift, I was thinking clothing, something to keep her warm and remember me by lol. I feel like she will really appreciate something like a thick cardigan, but I don't know where to buy it from?
Can I have links to styles of cardigans suitable for a 80year old?

If you don't know what style she would like then I probably wouldn't buy clothing.

Does she like hand cream, nice soap, perfume? What kind of things does she enjoy?

MinnieJackson · 24/10/2020 19:02

Marks and Spencer id say. Or if youre worried about choosing clothes, a plush blanket, comfy slippers, her favourite perfume.

Fifty plus catalogue is good. You do have a delivery charge. It's about £3.50. I buy from there and am late 60's. Also Bon Marche. It is a shop but I think they have a website. They are both aimed at women over 50.

Esspee · 24/10/2020 23:08

Definitely Marks. Their clothes are all suitable for 80year olds these days.

What's your budget?

I'd go for for cashmere winter socks... Or something cashmere. White company or tk max.

Framed pics of you and her or your dc if you have any... An electric warm blanket?.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 24/10/2020 23:22

Turtle dove recycled cashmere gloves or wrist warmers seem to be a big hit at the moment.

CherryPavlova · 24/10/2020 23:28

At eighty she might want a nice woolly cardigan with embroidery roses or she might want a black cashmere turtleneck to go with her linen trousers. Too many choices, to much variability in 80 year olds.

At 80 my mother was riding a bicycle still and was given panniers and brighter lights. She certainly wouldn’t have wanted warm socks.

If she’s an elderly 80, cashmere socks worn around the house without shoes is a significant falls risk. Elderly feet need well fitting, sensible shoes and stout slippers.

Don’t get her a thick cardigan; it will be too heavy.
Get her a light but warm one; cashmere is ideal but pricey.

A pashmina might also be a good shout

littlealexhorne · 24/10/2020 23:32

I'd vote M&S, I think my Gran gets most of hers from there

Picktionary · 24/10/2020 23:33

Lap blanket

Srictlybakeoff · 24/10/2020 23:34

I took my mum to Copenhagen for the weekend when she was 80. She would definitely have wanted cashmere if I was buying her knitwear but wouldn’t have wanted stout slippers. She wears flatter shoes than she used to but only if they’re still fashionable and not too sensible.

katy1213 · 24/10/2020 23:34

Just because you are 80 doesn't mean you want presents that make you feel like 100.

alexdgr8 · 24/10/2020 23:37

how much do you want to spend.
is she able to see you on videocall.
if not, how about a Komp, not cheap though.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 24/10/2020 23:42

If she’s cold, maybe nice thermals? At least if they’re not to her taste, they might be ok as they’re not seen.
Does she have internet? If so, an amazon echo or Facebook portal for video calls?

Cryalot2 · 24/10/2020 23:43

It depends how active she is.
My own mum is v hard to buy for. ( She is in her 80s ) . Recent gifts have been, hand crocheted blankets in her favourite colours, a nice wool blanket, a hamper made up of small bits and pieces she likes, including puzzle books and good artificial flowers.
Peter Hahn does good clothes for that age bracket.
Hoping this helps .
