Depressed stuck in a rut with work

Feeling down after having 3 children over the past 5yrs and feeling like career going on hold and won’t be able to move anywhere ever again.

I haven’t progressed for the past 10 yrs and had an interview on Monday, the feedback was really bad and the panel said it would have been too a huge jump. However other colleagues have made it into a more senior position than the one I was going for with less experience than myself. They said I would need a lot of development and didn’t answer any questions well.

Part of me thinks it’s because I have been part time since my second child I have lost my “spark” and with all that comes with being a mother and worn out etc.

Not sure what to do as feel like dont want to apply again after that experience. My current boss is supportive but not really interested in spending time on developing staff as we work in the local authority COVID has made everything very stressful I don’t see things improving for 2yrs.

Help!

How long did you take for each maternity? Did you work through pregnancy? How many hours are you doing part time? Is a promotion doable on part time hours?

Ok, OP, deep breath! So from what I get from your post is that you applied for a promotion and you didn't get it because it would've been a "huge jump"? Why do you think they said that?

Is there any chance you could apply outside of this company?

Do you have any support at home (dh, family or such)? What kind of help do you think you'd need to get your "spark" back?

I only took 7 months with first as we were really broke then a year with each of the others.

I have support from DH but we both work and are tired. He does pick ups so I can stay late if needed etc.

By “huge jump” they obviously meant it was too much compared to what I am doing now, where as for someone else they may be viewed as ready?

Feel like giving up. Yes could maybe apply elsewhere but not many transferable skills tbh in locality area. We are in a rural area.
