Can we have our swings back

During lockdown, someone from the council went round removing every other swing from the kids’ playgrounds.

Now, as a result, the children are crowding on the remaining play equipment. Outdoors is low risk for transmission, and under 11s are low risk for transmission. I am not convinced that anyone has actually done a mathematical model of how infection could happen on a swing (the fluid dynamics of breath dispersal would be quite interesting). AIBU to campaign to get the swings back? The kids have enough to be miserable about without this on top.

They removed all the swings & padlocked all the playgrounds in March in Sheffield. Every park, estate playground in the city. What they thought that would achieve, I don't know, took them until nearly August to reopen them again.

They did this near me at the request of the police to support social distancing. It wasn't the choice of the council to do it.

We've lost every other swing in most playgrounds near here too (in a few different council areas). I don't agree with it, but I thought it was more to do with the parents standing near each other to push the kids? But it's not consistent, because some playgrounds still have them side by side. Zip wires have remained, thank goodness.

My parish council opened as normal and just said use at your own risk (sensible in my mind). The one next door removed every other swing (although zip wire is fine). It is a real pain for lots of people with a few children as they can’t put them both on the swing at the same time to push. It also seems to put more pressure on other bits of play equipment. I don’t think it was a particularly rational decision especially when you’ve got loads of parents sat together at benches or lots of children climbing the same tower etc.

Our council have done this (removed the 2 middle swings from a row of 4). Makes pushing my twins really difficult!
